About 6 years ago a horse fell over on top of me, which ultimately caused a blood clot in my leg. At the time, I thought nothing of it and thought it would go away with time. At that point it was pretty big, about the size of a fist and it stuck out quite noticeably. Six months later the blood clot didn't go away and didn't really get much smaller in size, so I went to the doctor. He told me it would probably go away within a few months and if not to see him again. Now, I absolutely hate going to the doctors office and I avoid it at all cause, thus I never went back when it didn't go away. The swelling of it did go down, and probably 2 years after I had my mom's friend, who is also a RN, take a look at it. She said I shouldn't be worried about it. It is the same size it was now 4 years after she looked at it. It's very much still there but not as big as it originally was. I'm worried about possibly having Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVP) but I'm no medical expert. I just don't want this clot to embolize and I die (yes I'm aware I'm paranoid) Anywho, anythoughts? Anybody deal with bloodclots? I don't have medical insurance right now, so I defintely don't want to go to the doctors if it isn't urgent....but I'm really not sure if this falls under "urgent" because I have been living with it w/o any problems for quite a long time.
Well as for DVT it is deadly serious! I had ssurgery very minor at that and ended up with a DVT that sent a clot or clots to my lungs. I had no warning other than Friday I was walking and health, Saturday I could barely make it to the mailbox with out gasping fo air and by Wednsday I was moving 20 feet and blacking out! I lay here now in the hospital and am responding to you! I think that if they knew for sure your lump was a clot and not a risky one they would have wanted to dislove it somehow to assure you no chance of complication. Last week I would have said maybe no big deal but Im here on IV Heprin and pills and still fighting for air. Best of luck to you!
one thing that continually amazes me about this site and the american system is the total lack of medical attention given to the average joe.
Yeah I know, everytime I hear someone go on about how we are a supper power and we have to accept it I want to smack them. We get some of that extra millitary might from robbing health care from our lower middle class folks. Dude go to the emergency room, it will take forever but that is all we have you know. UHMMMM have you applied for medicaid? You might get something. Or you can apply again for medicaid again once you have the a bill you need help with. Don't worry about the bills though some credit places don't count medical debt against you.
OMG, I hope you'll be alright! I'm going to set up a appointment at a clinic in the next months or so where they give free phsyicals, so I'll ask the doc if it's anything I should worry about then. As for the heathcare, yeah it's total bs that there is such a large amount of Americans who go w/o. Actually, I've only been without Health Care for about 2 weeks now that I dropped out of school. I rarely used it but it was always a comfort knowing it was there. Hopefully, I'll be considered to MNcare but we'll see. **crosses fingers**
