Anyone ever been to The Green Man Festival? I quite fancy it this year, mainly because Joanna Newsom is playing and Gruff Rhys is always rumoured. Cheap too, £98 for the weekend. But I wonder just how tricky it is to get to. Anyone know? It's set in Brecon Beacons, Wales. Looks to be in the middle of nowhere and so far I haven't found a train station anywhere near the festival or nearest town.
ha,ha, this festival was voted best in uk by guardian last year and even tho its small it is always good as they have fantastic organisers, last year was spoilt by the weather as it pissed down all weekend but it was not mucky like glasto is because of better drainage and fewer folk.last year was the first in its new venue testament to its sucess and is held on a country estate of local high sherrif, dont let that put you off,the ticket price has increased so there will be a question of value for money but there is usually a strong folky line up. what part of the country are you traveling from?, you should experience the roads of mid wales once in a lifetime to take you back to the early days of automotoring for those who like to rave there is a weekender organised by the same festival weeks earlier at the old baskerville venue. put green man festivalinto google for website.
Haha, thanks I'd be travelling from NE England and ideally by train. I don't have a driving license, and I couldn't fancy travelling all the way to Wales on a bus. Do you know if there are any train stations in the area by any chance?
Friday 17th August – Sunday 19th August Glanusk Park, Brecon Beacons. Robert Palmer is another confirmed act. Should anyone care
wow train,um, remind me what they are exactly smokey things george stephenson et al. i guess coming from newcastle you would go to birming ham and then its a question of whether to go to shrewsbury or hereford. if you go to shrewsbury you can get the heart of wales train, nice countryside but very slow,to my hometown of llandrindod wells where you can then get a bus to brecon and then crickhowell which is actually nearest to site rather then brecon. ifyou got to hereford it might be beter to continue on the train to abergavenny which is only about eight miles from crickhowell... hang on i need to do some research
ok so on the site it says abergavenny is the closest train station, makes sense, theres prob a regular bus service to crickhowell and i wouldnt be suprised if there was a special to the estate/site itself. btw the ravy weekender is on march 23rd/24th some dj's confirmed including gruff rhys theres a good myspace green man festival site with a good few pics and previous years artists
Hee, it is Robert Plant...I thought it was Robert "Addicted To Love" Palmer. Now that'd of been dreadful! And thanks gaz or jazz, I appreciate your help there.
