i think everyone should become an authentic hippie(headbands, lovebeads, longhair, pschedelic clothes) again with the war going on and in the 60s it was a beautiful time to live in i think we all should bring the flower generation back
Don't worry... my time-machine is almost complete... I need is a Scissor Sisters record, when I have that... your wish will come true.
what are you really seeking? the perceived freedon? the community, (g-d forbid) the bad polyester clothes? the protest? Back to the land? Are you simply missing the connection to folks who are continuing that vibe in their own ways? And I do think them AUTHENITC as you put it. I hope as peace activists, womanists and the people still fighting with the Stonewall men, we have refined our methods and we are more effective. We have so far to go, why not join us in the continuing struggle?
I have been wanting that for as long as I can remember.... but it will never happen! that was a different time. You have to think about what happened before the 60s, the society then. We are in a completely different age, and it aint the age of Aquarius. Now, trying to duplicate 60s will only prove disappointing. What we need to do is to make our own era. Im all for the fashion!! I wear beads, and have long ass hair(literally)......I have an old pair of bellbottoms that I lived in for years, before the ass blew out, (that Im sewing back together), and I live for vintage clothing(at the right price, mind you!) But in reality, the mindset will not be the same, and that is what made the 60s so special. I am a bleeding heart romantic for that era, just like you, Rayneboe. (this is going to sound so lame, but have you ever cried because you felt like you were gipped? that you were born in the wrong place and the wrong time? Yes, I have....a few times) So, we have this time. What can we do to make it special and beautiful in its own right? To look back and tell our kids and grandkids that we were there? That we were a part of something beautiful?
wow..its soo cool hearing someone say that..i also feel like i was born in the completely wrong era...its nice hearing from someone i can relate to just thought i'd let you know..
the concept of that way of life is possible. if enough people got in on it, it might work. but with every up, there is down. so, if it is revitalized, it'll run out of fashion, yet again. besides there are too many prohibition laws against that kind of lifestyle. life is not free anymore and with the law authority and all that bullshit tighter on surveillance these days even if we did revert back to the 60s. all the surveillance would completely kill the dream. you wouldn't be free, you'd be hounded & put in jail. so yeah, being an underground hippy is the way to go. makes me feel more connected and supported that way. like i know a way of life that you don't.
ahh, but my dear friend. i have a scissor sister record. would you like borrow it? blow it all out on "laura". thank happiness for that song, lol.
Yes, let me borrow it. Then we can bring back the 60s with the same thing that killed the 60s... maaaad disco.
as much as i would have killed to be around in the 60s (just the connection with all the people that were like me) i have come to the fact that it will never ever happen, too many things have changed, and people are different now adays. do you guys thing that people 40 years from now will wish that they were around in the 00's like we are today?
Live in 60s. it's my dream, beautiful dream. I tried to be a true hippie. I carry on some of my psychodelics clothes, I have a long hair, I believe in peace, I'm against the war, agressive. I'm beyond tolerance. but everytime I have a lot of bad situations. In school, in a bus, on the street. But I try to psychically strong. Unlukily, I don't know any hippies like me in my area. I must get outta this country and will live in NYC!
to me being a hippie doesnt require an of the accessories your talknig about..its more of something in your heart..a yearning for escape..at least for me..but ya i totally agree we need that mentality and the love their was in the 60s. i really try and find people that have that mentality but i find it almost impossible in my generation..its a bummer.
I have plans to get out of my country. To usa, NYC. Maybye in few years. I was in this city and I'd really love it.
The Hippie culture was a last resort to end all the shit that was going on in the 60s. To have that culture back would mean that you would want the shit things to happen in the first place, so you can rebel against them in your own selfish ideal. In my opinion, the Hippie Generation acheived nothing in a political sense, which is one thing it strived for: political enlightenment. I hope it never comes back, and I don't want culture to repeat itself, as I don't want politics to repeat itself (even though politics often does). The Hippie era grew through the concrete palms of the establishment, and flowered out as a phase. Perhaps a social revolution will come, but it won't be the same.
Actually, astrologically speaking we are now closer to the Age of Aquarius than in the 60's.. (in many ways, it has started already - just not fully manifested yet) I view the hippie phenomenon as a 'preview' of what's to come. Like a quick glimpse of what things could be like. Like some cosmic wisdom from other realms took over for a few years before letting everything decay into total misery - just so people would realize and know there's hope of better, there's light in the tunnel .. The hippie-ideologies are very universal and ancient, the attitudes, the expanded consciousness and everything (perhaps except the drugs) were clearly of much higher realm than a regular joe's life normally lets anyone see or understand. Their view of the world, their understanding went all much deeper than the materialistic nihilistic, dull, grey viewpoint our ever-wise (ahem) science tries to tell us and which most people nowadays buy as truth and reality. - Vortac
