Well, I attained a copy of the Windows Vista Ultimate package, and I'm trying to install it on my computer. I get through the Product Key part, but then it asks me which OS I want to install and it lists all the different Vista versions that Microsoft put out.

So, I choose the Ultimate Package, and it just freezes and doesnt do anything... I tried it again and again choosing different packages but it just keeps freezing... Anything I can do about it?

NEVERMIND i dont want to upgrade... XP pro is good enough.

Especially with the secret Royale Noir theme... It's sexy as hell.

    Why would ANYONE want Vista?

Between the ridiculous hardware requirements, driver problems, and multiple layers of DRM, what is in it for the average user? A fancy desktop? No thanks...

Trying to avoid the common trollish behavior of linux enthusiasts , I'd like to suggest to those who are planning a migration to MS Vista , also to take in consideration a dual install with both windows and a modern Linux distro. Chances are you'll get more and more confident with the free operating system (free as thought, not as beer) and finally leave behind Windows. Among the advantages of this thing it's that when or if windows will fail because of viruses or intrinsic weaknesses:computer:, you can still comfortably access your data. also you can use Linux for navigation to avoid internet viruses. I can swear on my experience that dates back to 1999 that i never had to reinstall linux and never even came close to get something like a virus.
All you need is a disk partitioning software and a bit of taste for adventure :)

Sounds like your pirated it and don't understand your options. Stick with what you have working on your unit right now until you know more. Or you picked up an invalid or corrupted copy. Either way don't screw with it unless you know how to put your unit back into service after you screw it up.

I've screwed with my computer many times and have always come back to fix it.

Computers are expendable, that's how they're made. That's how you learn to do it yourself.

Everything I've learned about computers, I've learned myself and by now I can take a skeleton and built it up into a moderately good system. I just have problems with program errors.

I've had my unit since 1999. How long have you had yours? Microsoft and many of the software companies have gotten a lot smarter about pirating. You want to risk it do it at your own risk, and be prepared to have the root/boot area of your hard drive fried. Can you bring that back?

Software manufacturers have gotten a lot smarter over the years. If you can't keep up with their efforts, you better be careful. You may be able to put together some hardware, but if the software companies screw over your hidden sectors you are up shit creek.
