my first guess was Boston, but I know from being in FL for last 6 months that rent in Tampa area is outragous!

I think it may be philadelphia. We pay 1500 (which is the cheapest in our area) and only have 2 bedrooms.

anyplace everyone wants to live is going to be expensive, just because those who can afford it will. san francisco, and just about any of the "towns", it's really all one big almost totaly contiguous city anyway, that front on the san francisco bay, are on average, rediculously expensive.

new york, i know is rediculously expensive, and i for one, can't immagine why in the hell anyone would want to live there, or l.a., the (sf) bay area i can understand though.

that's my $.02 worth. undoubtedly there are places that are worse, i just don't know about them and probably don't feel that i particularly need to.

i'm just glad we've got a house for less then what we were paying for the crummy appartment we moved out of. and only wish it were further up in my hills instead of down here in this valley, where the air burns my throat and lungs as if i were smoking.

Arcata, CA is insanely expensive for how small it is since you can't get a 1 bedroom apartment for under 650.

San Fransisco is definitely what came to mind first.

I lived in San Francisco and have many friends who reside there. The rents are unbelievably expensive. It has to be the most expensive American rental city per square foot.

SF.. for sure. i lived across the bay in a TINY studio. it was maybe 20' by 30' total.. and it was a 1,000 a month. that was more than 5 years ago. that place is probably 2000 by now.

To the one paying $1500/month for a 2 BR in Philly, that's gotta be in or near Center City... however to put in perspective, you could easily pay that much for an efficiency in NYC...

EDIT: and the more I think about it, the less I want to live in New York, unless I'm making at least 45k..
