So I'm getting at least 2 of my wisdom teeth out today, possibly all 4

If I go an hour earlier than my appointment, I apparently get a Valium to calm me down. I'm kind of verging on being phobic about dentists. But when I went for my checkup with this guy, he was really not-scary, nothing bad happened, they were awfully gentle. So we'll see how this goes.

If the first 2 are fast and easy then he's gonna go for the other two as well. I really hope he does, because I'm not sure I can work up the courage to go a second time and the ones that would be done last are really bothering me lately (the gums beside them feel all swollen and annoying)

Good luck and it's probably best to get it out of the way. You won't have to deal with it again.

Oh dear! I'm extremely afraid of dentists. I've never really had any bad experiences with them, there's just something about the whole working on your mouth thing. I swear I'd rather got to the OB/GYN, and believe me, I hate that too and I'm waaaay overdue for a check-up.

I still have all my wisdom teeth. Two are impacted and two have tried to push their way through, but never fully. I don't really have any problems with them though, so my dentist said he didn't feel the need for me to have them removed unless I had issues. Funny, they seem to want to give me something to relax anytime I come in, I mean, I must look scared half to death because they always say "you know, we could give you something to help you feel more relaxed" but stubborn martyr me refuses.

But just think, you'll feel a lot better once it's all said and done! Good luck to you!

yeah, feel all better... unless I get dry socket like my friend did this summer (actually she got it twice plus an infection), and my mom got dry socket when she got hers out way back when (which is why she's been bad around dentists ever since)

I feel like I'm gonna puke but I know I should eat something before I go in, aaagh.

I need to get a physical done too, I should call my doc and make an appointment. My doctor is nice though, I'm fine with doctors. And I like my dentist, he's funny, was talking about his wife and his sex habits (uh, not in graphic detail, joking about how once women get married they stop being interested in anything without some serious romance first and silly stuff like that), I can deal with regular checkups but anything like fillings and such... :puke: :leaving:

Only for the chosen few. I even heard once of some luck bastard who got Oxy 20's for wisdom teeth.

thats what i was thinking, lol.

It's really not that bad. the only thing that sucks is you can't eat anything solid for a while, and you're not supposed to smoke either but i did, and the bruised chipmunk cheeks, i had them for at least a month after i got mine out. they gave me a valium to take before i went in, and my mom took me and i was being all goofy in the car, it was funny. good luck, you will be fine. i would push to get all 4 out, definately, so you dont have to go through it again.

Ugh, dentists... I swear they're all sadistic. Why else would you wanna poke people's mouths with sharp objects all day everyday?

I've never had a filing before...I had root canal done though when I had my bottom tooth knocked out as a young girl due to an abscess.

I have like a half dozen fillings in my mouth, it's crazy

anyways... two got pulled. I was shaking by the end of it so I figured I'd get the other two done another time. No vicodin for me, just told to take ibuprofen for a while. I got 20mg (I think it as mg anyways) of valium, he said he could've given me up to 30 but didn't want me to over-react and fall asleep on him... but next time I think I'm gonna go for 30 since I was shaking and stuff by the end this time round.

valium is like being tired drunk, I've decided.

So I have cotton stuck in my mouth, I'm hungry and really craving fish n chips but I can't eat that. I think I'm gonna end up with chicken soup, blerg. Or maybe pasta... I think I could deal with pasta. The cotton swab thing is keeping my jaw from shutting all the way so I can't really chew too well

Bler and we went to an asian buffet but of course I couldn't eat anything. I went to visit the people we were going with but, yeah. Dammit it smelled soooooo good

Why do Americans get wisdom teeth pulled out?

I swear I was never exposed to that practice till I came here.

They're usually weaker than the other teeth and often coming in at an angle to fuck up all your other teeth. The reason is to close the gap for adult teeth that are lost, but we don't lose adult teeth as readily as the cavemen did.

funny you say fast food...i never had one cavity at all growing up..i ate fast food, soda, didn't have good brushing/flossing habits, i pretty much quit almost 5 years ago all that crap, except for rare times when i crave Wendy's...

but i rarely drink any soda or eat crappy food...but i've gotten plenty of cavities in the past 2 years...it makes no damn sense to me because i brush and floss and use mouth wash....i mainly drink water except for alcohol - and now thats not as common as it used to be...so i'm at a loss

It's generally believed that the Brits, followed by the Japanese, and the indians (from India) have the most fucked up teeth on the planet.

Native americans have odd looking teeth but in their case there is a genetic component. i.e. whereas africans and europeans have flat broad teeth, native americans have a scooped out appearance.

 why the FUCK are you talking about Americans getting their teeth pulled when I'm Canadian?
And they got pulled because they're impacted, they're fucking with my tiny jaw, one side was getting infected, one on one side was coming in completely horizontal and the other on the other side is coming in at a 45 degree angle

maybe im just lucky, but i never had a bad time at the dentist. every once in awhile i would get an annoying lady doing my teeth, but sometimes i had really nice people doing it that didnt screw up my teeth.

i got my wisdom teeth pulled, all 4 of em at the same time. i thought it was gonna hurt so bad, but the procedure was nothing. I walked in there, they drugged me up and the next thing i knew i was in a wheel chair waiting to go home. Its pretty scary once you get out and you have to basically be a vegitable for a few days while your mouth heals o_O. But they give you lots of pain killers.

I suggest getting all 4 removed at once. Better to get it all out of the way now then experience it twice. you shouldnt worry :)

I guess fast food does not make it so.

    Neither does being American.

But Americans and Canadians do look the same :D
