I've been living in a major corporate owned apartment complex for about a year now, and on about four different occasions we've received letters for various "inspections". I never thought much about them, and always complied, but lately I'm wondering if these inspections aren't really schemes for the corporation to keep tabs on its renters. We had the latest one a couple of days ago. It was, apparantly, to "check the fireplace"... but when the guy came in to check it, he didn't really do anything. He looked inside of it for about five seconds and left. I'm not sure if I'm being overly-paranoid but I feel as though it was really just a spy for the corporation. I've never lived in a privately-owned apartment compex so I don't know if this is routine (to keep tabs on renters) or if it's just a corporate policy. Do you think this is possible?

Possibly, and especially if these so called 'Inspections' are extremely brief. Then again, fireplace inspections probably aren't among the most thorough of jobs you'll come across. All in all, I believe it's a possibility, but it's still highly unlikely. I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless something else extremely odd comes up in the near future. It's a very interesting thought, though.
