heehee melon freaks must be a very special kind of plant dork! out there with blankeys on their big melons, feeding them with syringes.... i hope i meet an obsessed melon farmer someday. theyre probably even weirder than cactus guys! i love it!
restoivtail: I heard about this when I was going to college in America, the Napa Valley in Calif. I was renting a old farm house with a lot of garden areas. With a lot of scrap wood around the place, I said what the hell and gave it a try. Once the Mellon's fill the box you strip away the wood the Mellon's will continue to grow, square. I was telling a buddy about my crop, he worked at a high dollar country club and golf course. About a week later a van pulled in the drive with my buddy at the wheel and about 12 Japanese guests from the country club. They bought every Mellon I had at the tune of 30 dollars apiece. That was some serious money back then.....
For a melon that's still some serious money... If I could grow melons for thirty apiece... yeah, I'd just do that for the rest of my life... It'd be doable... hehehe
You made some cash and recycled some old wood. It is hard to grow watermelons here but I think I am going to try to grow a square pumpkin this year. Ever year I try to grow a giant pumpkin and haven’t even come close so maybe the square thing might be a good new goal. Cheers!
Johnny: I'm in the same boat, not enough growing season here in Alaska. If your not too locked into the island, they grow killer Mellon's over in Penticton Okanogen area.(sp?).....Dennis
Hello! I really love this Island so I am staying put. We have a pretty nice garden and when I get it tidied up and a few things growing (my garlic is already up) I will post a photo or two. Cheers!
