I'm planning on going to Thailand in August, and I'm so excited about that trip. I wonder if anyone else has been to Thailand. I'm looking for some advice about cool places to visit in Thailand. I'll be in Thailand for five days - not enough, but that's all I can afford now.

wow.. thats awesome ! :) five days let see.. it also depends on whether you want more of the country or the city actions.... if you want both then the most time saving way to travel out of bangkok to the north or the south is by plane... there are cheaper domestic flights available... they go by the name of Nok Air, Air Asia... mmm not sure if there's another one.. roundtrip to phuket/chiangmai is only about $12-15 (USD).. bus is ofcourse cheaper (but not much now i think) its more time consuming.. and i recommend that you travel at night so you can sleep on the bus..

there are many things to do in bangkok.. once you are here and if you live around the touristy area.. men will be at your face offering tour packages, transportation (tuks tuks) etc.. becareful not to let them rip you off... and lodui was right to recommend thai boxing, people seem to be into it.. i've never been to a match but i live near one of the boxing arenas... if you love the nightlife then you can explore bangkok nightclubs.. or stripclubs if you wish.. as for places to visit the classics are the Grand Palace(emerald buddha), some other temples like Wat Arun by the river and Wat Po which is next to the grand palace. they train masseuses at Wat Po by the way, you can learn to do Thai massage there .. lets get out of bangkok for now

places that are not so far off of bangkok but will provide natural sceneries.. for those who love mountains, waterfalls and a little bit of history i recommend kanchanaburi, they have a great water fall there called the Erawan, the rainy season just passed so it will not be too dry ;)they also have a burial ground for the POWs back in the WW2, if you have heard of the bridge over the river kwae.. many of the pows were westerners...

or go to Ayuthaya, the old Capital, which of course has now collapsed.. we are left with the ruins of the temples and palaces.. but its still amazing... i've been there.. well maybe i just love to listen to the story.. lol

if you love the ocean and do not want to go as far as phuket then.. Koh Chang, Koh Tao, Koh Samet and Koh Pa-ngan(full moon party there every month) Koh means island... Pattaya is a beach town but it is very spoiled and the beach itself is pretty messed up.. the town is heavily filled with men tourists who are there for drinks, strip actions and girls they can take home with... but still you can go to pattaya and then get on a boat and go off to some islands around there ... they are not too bad... (pattaya is only about 1 hour car ride from bangkok)..

well dont worry you'll find places to visit.. and i'll recommend some more when i can think of them and of course at your request.. ;)

now who else is coming to thailand ? *looks around*

I don't know where I'm staying in Bangkok. Actually, I haven't paid for anything yet - I haven't made a deposit for the flight but I will do that soon. A buddy and I have had a minor disagreement about where we're staying in Thailand, but I'm confident we'll agree on a good (and not-so-expensive) place.

Zerenity, thanx for the info :) A friend of mine recommended Pattaya, and he told me it wasn't the greatest of places, but still might be worth visiting. I guess it's biggest appeal is it's close to Bangkok, and it's a big tourist place.

Are you saying that round trip flights from Bangkok to Phuket are cheap? I've heard Phuket is very beautiful, but also very touristy.

How is the postal system? I want to send many postcards to friends, so I hope it doesn't take long to send postcards from Thailand.

Well, that's all for now, but I'll ask more questions about Thailand.

yes i meant that the airfares are much cheaper than they used to be =) yes phuket is touristy but it is in a much better shape than pattaya... and like pattaya u can go off to some little islands around it =)

the postal system is okay i guess.. it will take about a week or so for postcards to go through to europe.. i think around the same time for north america. maybe a few days to japan =) u can choose to pay more for super fast service..

Do you recommend any nightclubs in Bangkok? I really want to experience the Bangkok nightlife, and take one of my friends (who has never been to a nightclub before). I'm hoping to go to an awesome club that isn't a little too "outrageous."

silom road(silom soi 4), khaosan road, royal city avenue (RCA), ratchada road (soi 4).. those are popular nightclubbing scenes.. there are a few other good ones that are not in one of those places.. there are sooo many night clubs... and i'm not an expert in this field to be honest....:p you dont have to worry about it once you are here i guess... just follow your heart.... once you meet some people i'm sure one thing will lead to the other..

anyone can help beachbum ?? i'm so hopeless... lol

I know you said you feel helpless, but I greatly appreciate your advice about Thailand. I'm trying to get as much advice as I can about Thailand, so thank you for the advice.

If you're into culture, then see "Ramakien" plays, they're quite nice. An example of Thai's Hindu culture. But better see it, cuz it's on verge of dying out as an art form.
