I LOVED THAT MOVIE IT WAS SOOO FUNNY AND SOO INTENSE IT WAS A JAPENESE FILM FOR THOSE OF WHO DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS I HIGGHLY RECOMEND IT warning: VERY VERY VIOLENT ANG GORY
I got it on DVD the other day. I wouldn't really say it's funny though - It's satirical, but to most western people, the satire isn't really seen. The premise of the film is quite a far-fetched one, that adults have passed a law requiring a class to kill each other off, but the film does have some brilliant scenes in it, and it is a modern day Lord of the Flies. The characters are well developed, and each one has a reason for killing. The two bloodthirsty characters, Kiriyami, and Mitsuko are very good characters. kiriyami is obviously a bloodthirsty psycho who enjoys killing, and Mitsuko is a vengeful girl who uses deception to get the better of her victims. The lighthouse scene is quite memorable. Battle royale is definitely a film for everyone to see. Even if you can't see the satirical element in it, it is a very good film, in terms of pure drama.
This one ranks among my top 10 movies of all time, I've not seen another Japaneese film hold a candle to it!
I thought it was a great movie... Jon, I didn't even know they had a part 2, I'm going to have to see it...
The DVD for BRII is supposed to be out in the UK about now. I'll have to get a copy of it. From what I've heard, it's not as good as the original, although I'd guess that it will be worth a viewing. BR is a film which you have to watch more than once to understand, and as you look at the film through the eyes of each character, you begin to understand it all that little more.
