I have not persued relationships with people in the past simply because they would burp constantly. Grown adults that sit around burping as loud as they can- that can't go one meal without burping at least five times. Sorry....that annoys the hell out of me and makes me want to strangle you.

It's other things too... if people are not polite, I just don't want to be around them.

word.... same with talking with your mouth full of food or eating with your hands at a fancy restaurant. Disgusting. Oh and if you have facial hair, fucking wipe your mouth after each bite because you get nasty food in it and I will not kiss you til you're clean (and even then it's debatable)

While I may be polite, I can't say I have any manners. If I gotta burp, I gotta burp! :D

Those things annoy me too, ihmurria.

Silverwolf- it's one thing to burp every now and then. Everyone does it, including me . It's people who do it constantly and really loud like its funny.

Believe me, sometimes I swear my husband was raised by a pack of wolves. I've literally had to teach him proper manners, I swear. But thank goodness he's gotten better...he had to, because our kids were displaying some of the same manners and he would get on their cases about it, so I told him that he was setting an example and to shape up! So he has, and the kids have definitely followed!

I'm a stickler for proper manners, etiquette, that type of thing. Just like when I have certain family members (*coughs* in-laws) who never, ever call before they stop by, and it's usually right at dinner time. I was always taught never to stop by unannounced, to call beforehand to make sure the person is up for company or not busy.

Well, that's the thing- a lot of times it is how a person grew up and I grew up with manners so I expect it but some people don't grow up like that.

I am a huge fan of manners, including how people treat those who are waiting on them or cashiers at stores...and I get sort of annoyed if they don't say thank you etc....it might sound trivial but its how I feel.

I am defintely not into public loud burping and farting, keep it somewhat under wraps

    loud chewing is bad too

I think proper manners and 'ettiquette' are completely outmoted holdovers from Victorian times, and I think for the most part we're better off without them. That said I mean things which arent dealing with just being disgusting. My dad chews with his mouth open and the sound makes me wanna vomit, so that kinda stuff yeah, elbows off the table? Hell no.

I also find furry harp seals covered in snow to be extremely cute...

Having manners is just having respect for yourself and other people. There's nothing wrong with having manners

If a cashier doesn't make any attempt to be pleasant, say thank you, or have a nice day, I say it for them. Except, I say it in an overly enthusiastic mood. Basically, I'm being sarcastic because I was annoyed with the way they were. ;)

I don't get anal about it, but bad manners in public do bother me a tad, I must admit. I wasn't really raised with good manners, but I raised myself to have good manners, always thought of it as at least a tad important.

On the other hand, I do curse alot in public... but that's not too bad :)

Sometimes I forget my tablemanners if I'm really hungry...I'll just lean down and start shoveling food into my mouth without realizing what I must look like. [IMG]

Ha! It's worse when they sit around burping and then farting! I knew a girl that used to do that. I used to laugh!

it's funny, i went camping with a bunch of hare krishna brahmacharis, and they thought it was almost rude that i wanted to eat my food with a spoon. not exactly rude, because they know that's how i was raised, but a little bit prissy which is worse than rude, i think. they all eat with their hands. but they only use their right hand, and if you use your left hand, that could be considered slightly rude. none of it is really a big deal, but it's something to get used to :D.

i don't like the elbows off the table rule, although i try not to do it just in case some people are uptight about it. i probably burp a lot without realizing it, but i try to be quiet about it. my problem is i hiccup ALL THE TIME. it just runs in my family, for no reason, i am constantly hiccuping. and hiccups are hard to hide, they make your whole body bounce if you don't let them out. but i try to be as polite as possible...

Yeah, elbows on the table is one thing I could care less about. I'm not like OBSESSED with manners- I could care less if someone burps now and then.... but you know, there is a point where it just becomes rude, obnoxious and annoying.

I don't think that it's the lack of manners that truly bothers people... it's more the fact that some people insist on pointing out that they lack them.
