So, my boyfriend had this humongous bump under his arm the other day and he kind of left it alone until it started hurting. It also started smelling so awful! Obviously it was from the bump because the other arm didn't smell near as bad and he's never been one to smell. Even his sweat is not stinky! So, we left it alone until a few days ago he decided to pop it and attempt to get it to stop hurting. This thing was really bothering him. So, he poped the bitch. Honstly it took 10 minutes to get all of the puss and stuff out of it. When it came out it was about the size of a pencil and nearly 3 inches long. We assume that it was from an ingrown hair folicle (he gets them alot) that had gotten layer of layer of deoderant on it causing it to clog extensively! I honestly have no idea how it was able to be that big. The next day if you looked at it you could see that there was a pretty large opening (understanding that it's just an arm pit and it's not that big to begin with) and it was pretty bruised looking.
Has anyone had this happen to them before? I'm just wondering if it really was a deoderant build up. I've heared of that happening but never to that extent!

It sounds like a abcess. It is an infection, which walls itself off, and pus collects in it. Often, it will return, or become a blood infection, if not treated professionally. He really should see a doctor. Abcesses often need a few days of IV antibiotics, as oral antibx won't get through the "Wall" the abcess created.

If he starts to run a fever, you see a red dot or a red line, running from the lump out, if he feels ill, like he has the flu, or the lump returns he needs to be taken to the Emergency Room of a local hospital immediately. These are symptoms of sepsis or blood infection.

Please make sure he gets to see a doctor.

Maggie is right. He should go see a doctor just to be sure. Don't let him gamble with his health. Blood infections can kill you.

Thanks Maggie. I was actually wondering about that however I didn't have all the facts. I don't necessarily see that it's going to take a turn for the worse but I will definitely keep my eye on it.

I have had this happen a couple of times, but maybe not to the extent of what has been described here. I have had a couple of lumps just under the skin in the armpit, but I havent ever noticed a smell from it. After awhile, it will get to the point where you can pop it by squeezing it. There will be a sharp stinging pain when you do this, but only for a few seconds. The ones I have had have been slightly smaller than a marble. I cant say exactly why they do occur. Maybe it is a reaction to a certain deoderant, as I do tend to change brands from time to time.

I've gotten a few deodorant zits too...

Not that big, maybe 2-5mm wide. I just popped em with a kleenex and then threw that shit away...

Every time, the pus smelled like someone was running for like 10 hours in a box then sat around for 3 weeks without showering... Basically really bad BO.

That's why it says on the stick not to use it over broken skin.....my ex had one that was about golf-ball sized. There are a few good poultice recipes floating around the next if you're herbally inclined.

Another idea: Make a cup of tea; take the tea bag out (still damp and warm), and place it over the opening of the abcess. If it isn't too far gone, it'll help draw out the infection.

Above all though, the above posters were absolutely right. If it gets worse or doesn't start getting better soon, get his ass to a doctor ASAP.
