Greetings all Im looking to dread my hair soon, but Im not sure how large or small to make individual sections. Im half malay and half caucasian so my hair is very thick and dense, its also quite long, straight/wavy, and it gets pretty frizzy after its washed. The dreads Im after are ones fairly thick, maybe a diametre of just after an inch once theyre mature. Thanks all! Peace
Around 2cm in diametre I reckon. Fairly even all over so I guess Id need more hair where its thinner say around the front. Overall I'd like them pretty neat, I hate to say it but I'll be using wax *ducks for cover*
well if you dont want them for a long time, go for it.. but dread arent soemthing that happens right away. I had a friend who wanted to use wax cause she was going to shave her head in a year anways.. i talked her out of it and its now been more than a year and loves them. you can use things like aloe and tea tree oil that wont rot your hair, but really it is all up to you
Unfortunately that doesnt answer my original question, but I'll take the aloe vera tip into consideration cause I bought a plant yesterday >.<
I'd say make the squared sections 1.5 inches or so. dreadheadhq.com has a good how to section...just omit the wax and other crap they use.
As an ex-dhhq employee, I can tell you that their info on how to make dreads is pretty ok. Some stuff is not so good, but most of the info is. Just my opinion though.
