    Explorations at Greystone*

    Chained fences blocked our advances
We climbed them with reckless abandon
We entered the corridors of the soul.
Possessed by the spirits of long gone patients
Lobotomized ghosts of our former selves
We explored the hallways of the body
We hunted for sanity in the darkness
And discovered patient logs strewn across the floor
Abandoned by the doctors (in more ways than one)
We traced the words written on the walls

We examined the underground tunnels of the mind
And heard the desperate outcries of the hopeless
    Silently screaming in their catatonia
We reached through the metal bars over the windows
We tried to touch the sky

    * In 1924 The State Asylum for the Insane in New Jersey was renamed Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, it officially closed in 1998.

In my opinion, this is one of the very very few good poems in this forum.
