Just a few questions. Ive had dreads for 3 mths as obviously my titile says. for the first 2 mths i've tried to look for the best wax around my area for my dreads but jus seem to wash out when washing them. jus recently a mth ago i oreder the knotty boy wax. is it better off not to use wax? cause some people say yes and no. the knotty boy has hepled my hair stick together n goin to the beach n such. also i know roots take ages to lock up as ive read around and is normal for an inch or two not to be dreaded yet. mine is a bit more then that some are like an inch to 3 inches. i have asian hair so its hard to tangle it the roots are jus plain straight silky. jus wonderin if thats NORMAL?! mayb in my case it is.

    here are some pic tho

me n my gf standin is like the 1st day i think or 1st week she came but from the philz n tryin out some clothes.[IMG]

this is like in between from the 1st day to now w/ normal wax[IMG]

n the most recent one like few weeks ago with knotty boy[IMG]

Wow there are a lot of "should I use wax" posts.

No. wax=pure evil. Do you have wax on in your pictures? Because it just looks like gooped up chunks of hair to me(sorry. mostly in the second picture though..not so much in the first one.)...that's what happens when you wax them. The wax just holds your hair together and doesn't really let it mesh on its own. Aloe Vera rocks as a smoother and lock accelorator. Just don't drench the dreads in it. Use it like you'd use hair gel.

And there's a stickied FAQ thread you can read through for most of the questions you might have. :)

Just leave your hair alone and it'll dread. My hair's really silky too...it just takes patience and neglect. :p The roots will eventually lock up and grow into dreads on their own. if you want to help them, I'm sure you're heard of clockwise rubbing...I don't reccomend it though.

Be nice to your dreads, don't molest them or smother them with goo!

I'd have to agree. I've never used wax & can't imagine ever using it & I have super fine, silky smooth hair. Mine are almost 2 months and in comparison, I think mine look more knotted than yours... like knotdirty said, yours in that one pic looks like greasy, clumps of hair. (no offense, just trying to help a dreaded brotha out.)

Discontinue with the wax STAT & I promise you, you will thank yourself.

ALSO, you need to remove the wax from your hair so that the hair has a chance to knot up (or it will just hang out in your hair forever... there are some pics around here somewhere of dreads that were cut and you could see all the gross wax build up in the middle of the dread)... you can do this with an apple cider vinegar rinse, SUPER hot water & Dr. Bronners soap (or something with that leaves no residue).

Try using that deep cleaning stuff...the thread's on the front page of this forum.

I swear to you my locks got 2x tighter overnight. Baking soda, sea salt, lemon juice (I left out the tea tree.)...mmmm-azing stuff.

Another question..what do you wash your hair with? If it's knotty boy shampoo you might want to chuck it and go get some Dr. Bronners. Knotty Boy has chemicals and lots of poopy stuff in it.

Dude, here's the link with all the measurements for the deep cleaning concoction.

Also, maybe you can find somewhere local that sells handmade soaps.... Etsy.com has some great handmade products and some people might ship to Aus.... If not maybe you can find someone to get you some Dr.Bonners and ship it to ya! ;) HTH
