Could someone help out a couple of students please

hello all i would very much appriciate it if i could get a definition from the posters on what exactly a hippie is this is for a sociology presentation so people wont judge a book by its cover ya know? replies will be much appriciated thank you in advance

 

Hippies are people from the 60s with long hair, who smoked lots of dope and listened to acid rock. They eventually cut their hair, traded their bellbottoms for a suit and tie, and became businessmen.

 

can u define love in simple terms? to define a hippy is to take away the hippies very soul ,. simply cause hippies live outsidde of definitions & labels.. to say a hippie is... really limmets the true scope of what hippies are , and hipness is truly unlimmeted,
a hippy could be an emnlightened master,a guru type, or could be a ceo 9-5 3 peice suite type or a homeless junky, its not a thing thats easily defined but a spirit that unites,
simply i guess a hippier is someone who thinks outside the box, & since bioxes are limmiting a hipppie is anyone whos rejected the limmitations of boxes & definitions

 

Don't forget the part where they pretend that they weren't hippies. That's what my parents did.

pretty much but also pretty much a meanningless label that applies to anything previuly unlabeled..see u can totaly fit into any label, but have 1 lil personality trait that doesnt fit that label & your automaticaly added the hippy label.. ya like bare feet, your s hippie.. ya eat healthy, your a hippy... ya shoot drugs..your a hippy you live on a boat your a hippy, any lil personality difference that sets u apart from everytyone else in your assigned group earns u as hippy label..think aboiut it..u could be totaly goth or punk or yuppy ar anything & ya say your anti war & your labeled a hippy
hippies really the most meanningless label since everyones pretty much got a lil hippie in em

so..hmm hippie definition, a hippie is someone hip. or having a hipness that sets him/her apart from everyone else in theyre group. & since everyone has at least a tiny bit of hipness , everyones a hippie, its just a matter of determining whats hip why & wether or not hipness truly exists in the 1st place

yeah, that's what it's become. well that's what big media and big government wanted it to do too. you see once upon a time a bunch of long haired freeks, who opposed war and segrigation, almost altered the dominant culture and conciousness into one that honored and rewarded creativity instead of ostracizing it and rejected aggressiveness instead of romantacizing and rewarding that. so big media, with the help of big government, who'se bread and butter was ripping people off of the freedom it made a big pretence of pretending to give them, came up with a way to discredit this. and they were despirate to do so, because you see, we, who were the teenagers and young adults of the time, thanks to what our parents did when they got home from world war two, damed near outnumbered every other age group there was.

so they invented the term hippie to discredit and vilify pacifism and integrationism and anti-chauvanism and anti-prejudice.

well some of us managed to turn that arround, realizing everything they were trying to discredit us for was the real honor and something to wear with pride.

but the majority of the main stream culture never did really 'get it', even then, or now.

all the depicting us as partying and drugs, all that came later and was intended to discredit us as well, and while it did dilute our origeonal motivation and ferver, it also swelled our ranks as everyone wanted to hop on the bandwagon. hell even the streightest streights love to party.

so there you have the REAL brief history of the label "hippie".
