I'm going to see Dark Star Orchestra on January 21st. They are a Grateful Dead tribute band. Has anyone heard of them or know how good they are? Also if you have been to a show is there much of a gathering in the lot before show or pretty layed back? I havn't seen many live shows before but the tickets were only 20 bucks and it is general admission so I'm gonna be dancing my ass off. One thing I am concerned with is that they will be serving alcohol, which I hate already and I'm not even 21, so I hope everyone is peaceful. I will be smoking some fine herb with my dad before hand too. I think it is gonna be great! I'm stoked !
http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=135237 http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=183539 I found them tiring, not as good as the hype led me to believe and a talky crowd. I would save the $20 for a local band doing something of their own, or at least to see the Schwag.
i will hopefully be seeing em at "a Bear's picnic" festival in Pennsylvania this July. i was gonna see them at the house of blues in atlantic city this past december, but im on probation and i cant leave the state. and i would never leave the state other than to see the disco biscuits.
Actyally they are pretty good. I have seen them a few times and it is a great oppotunity to be around kind folk that are there for the same reason as you.Not only that, but they Reproduce an actual Grateful Dead show. All the way down to stage setup and pauses in the show. Then the fun part is trying to guess what show you are hearing. Then at the end of the show, they announce what show it was. i.e 7/3/95 Deer Creek etc. If ya got the bread,go check it out man,and form your own opinion. You may not like them as I did,but you may get hooked. Peace :sunglasse P.S. I'm going to see them in Indy 1/31
hahaha the schwag...... they come from st louis...... Ive seen them quite a few times..... theyre not bad...... dark star orchestra was pretty good when I saw them the first time........ Ive seen them three times total...... they play an entire setlist from the dead vault down to the tee. but yeah, Id rather spend money on the schwag as far as dead cover bands goes.... they are usually more reasonable as price...... and it seems the crowd is much better.
as far as dead cover bands go, i would highly recommend yall check out cosmic charlie from athens, ga. when they come to your town. I personally think they're more exciting than DSO, and the cover charge is generally much more reasonable. I like DSO, but im not a huge fan of the way they 'copy' a particular show, i would rather the band be free to go where the music takes 'em
I saw them and thought it sucked. They started an hour early (wtf?), they played this weird 'all over the place' 1984 show, and they didn't jam. Meh.
lol. Yes, even Jimmy. He bunked in my room. weird, at the show someone asked if I was Chris' (Jimmy's son) girlfriend. I cracked up and said, sorry , baby, I'm his dad's age.
I saw Dso on Fri night 2-17 in Saint Pete, i ended up on their list & got a comp ticket, the show was really good, drums & space were impressive, had a good time.
i've seen dso many times, but recently saw them in milwaukee and madison last month. both were musically good and fun, but madison took the cake for sure.
i heard them do fire on the mountain. and i... FELL IN LOVE. of course, the origional masters of fire on the mountain make me wanna melt everytime i hear it, dark star orchestra did a pretty good job with tampering with my emotions!
i haven't seen these guys yet....i've heard great things.....I've seen the Schwag and that was alot of fun.....so i think DSO would be great.
