I am the proud mama of a beautiful 6 month old boy and want to have more...not sure if I want another so soon though. Before my pregnancy my periods were like clockwork and since my son was born, they are very irregular. I heard it's common to not get your period if you are breastfeeding (which I am) but I got one about 6 weeks after my son's birth and then another one about 2-3 months after that. Then about 30 days after that one I got another one. My husband and I had unprotected sex right after that last one ended and now it's been about 35 days since my last period. So how do you deal with irregular periods, I mean, could I actually be pregnant even though I'm still breastfeeding? Anyone have similar experience?

yes you could be pregnant even though you are still breastfeeding. Have you talked to your doctor about birth control?

I quit bleeding after my son's birth after 6 weeks. I have had about 3 light periods since then, lasting a day or two each and there was no predicting their arrival. I had 2 that were 3 weeks apart, and then went several months until the next one.

This morning I got my first real period since his birth... cramps, and bitchiness included. My son turned 6 months last week.

it's possible that you could be pregnant
your body is still also healing from the birth. My periods got right on track after 6 weeks of bleeding after I had leane. They have been on track ever since. But I also have a friend who had a baby almost a year ago, and her periods are all over the place, whereas before, they were like clock-work. Every woman is different. It takes 2 years to recover from a pregnancy, and your hormones may still be all outta whack. But, to be on the safe side, I would also go get a test! :)

just to clarify, I quit bleeding about a week after my son's birth and then started bleeding again 6 weeks after, so I'm pretty sure it was a period but I could be wrong.
About the birth control issue, I don't want to go on the pill and we don't like using condoms. Actually, it's not really an issue for us because we were using the pull out method which actually worked for us for about 2 years and the one time he didn't was when I got pregnant. And this time he didn't again because we've sort of been talking about having our kids close together but then decided to wait a little while longer....but there was that momentary lapse of reason :) Anyway, I would prefer to wait until my son's a year old before we tried again but if we happened to get blessed with another little one so soon, I guess I would just be thrilled!
Guess I'll have to go get a test!

you can only be pregnant if you ovulated the day after your period, which would be
    pretty unusual.

with out of whack cycles, it'd be more difficult to pin down when the ovulation is.

Lotus, you HAVE to be responsible for your fertility. There is NO reason not to be.
the world of BC is not just the pill and condoms.
Look into Fertility Awareness (which is a tracking of the ovum by the "slime signs" or mucus) There are great books on it. What you are doing with it is ID the "wet" and fertile times and then chosing to use additional BC or simple abstinence.
your babe deserves to be the center of attention for at least a couple years. Your body deserves to heal from carrying and bearing.

well, I just took a pregnancy test and it was negative. I guess we will just be more careful (no slip-ups) until we are definitely sure we are ready for #2! Even though my brother and I are only 16 months apart and as close as can be ( I swear we are like twins!) and I don't think that having babies close together is too terrible, personally I would like to spend just a bit more time with it only being my son.
