Ok, maybe I am just being a paranoid freak but I'm going to the Ocala gathering tommorw and I want to take pictures with my digital camera (cannon rebel) but I am worried people will judge me or think I am a cop. I don't know, I really love photography and want to capture beautiful rainbows but I feel worried..what do you guys think?
is taking pictures with a pretty nice camera ok at gatherings?
can i ask people if i can take their pictures or is this too intrusive?

THANKS for any advice :) :)

If your close to folk I always ask, but when I'm taking pictures far away of hundreds of people I just snap away...

Yeah, that was going to be my advice...if you're going to take a picture of someone...even in Babylon, it's always polite to ask first.

absolutly 90% wouldnt care as long as theyre asked, but a few may refuse and just respect that.. but general scenery thst happens to contain people pretty ok to just take shots..

you will encounter people with real reasons why they wont want to be immaged .the camera may seem hamless to you , and you have no intension to use it to anyones detriment , but there are peeps who could be undone by a picture.and they dont know you or your intensions

at new mexico, I had my full rig, and I wound up with just "ambience" shots.
People have their resons for not wanting their pictures taken, so always, always, always ask. and respect whatever answer you get.

yep, asking is a good thing. saw a pic of our kitchen somewhere on the web & the pic taker made a comment about how empty the kitchen became when the 'pic being taken' announcement was made...wish all folks were as understanding as the folks who've posted here...some folks have good reasons why they don't want their pics taken.
(oh & when I take pics of main circle or someplace where there are goign to be unasked people in the backround, I take 'spirit pics' meaning that I don't check to see what the pics will be...I just hold the camera over my head & snap away....)

asking is great because some family have professional jobs in Babylon that they may lose if his/her boss would find the picture(s). Once I become a teacher I will have to be one of those that says no to pictures.

There are alot of teachers in the rainbow not just school age kids, but even collage levels. use discretion and dont be naked in the photos , if your worried. I know of one very poetic rainbow elder, who i believe is a teacher, and he is always naked. they can't fire you on a photo of you just at a gathering, you have to be doing something naughty.

I'm another photography junkie and echo what everyone else has said - I take group photos mostly by holding the camera up above my head but am sure to always ask if I take any close ups or people pics. There's always beautiful scenery to take pictures of, and of course my friends are usually fine with being in pictures. As long as you respect people's wishes you should have no problems. :)

im one of those poeple that run from cameras or cover my face or what ever at gatherings. if its close family no prob but had way to many wierd experiences with people i dont know with cameras working up front and wahtnot. in co last year my freind kept on running into some guy at clean up (i never found him or we would of had a serious talk) with a camera who would sneak up and take pics of people doing whatever it was they were doing, being it burning one cooking sorting trash whatever witout anyones consent and allways casualy sneak away. on one occasion my bro asked this guy if they wanted to exchange email addresses to swap gathering pics and he replyed yes and acted like he was all about but then again casually sneaks off into the woods....

    weird shit

i quit letting people take pics of me in the woods a long time ago and its stories like this that remind me why
