mississippi state legislature wishes to pass a bill that will castrate sex offenders. i don't know exactly what is meant by the term "sex offenders" but apparently they want to castrate them. i think this sounds just like the code of hammurabai and that it's a total human rights violation. I mean i know they've hurt people but how about just teaching peace and respect from the cradle and maybe banning stuff like rap videos that teach that women are objects. also, most rapists/molestors don't commit these acts out of sexual desire..they do it because they want feelings of power and control. what if an innocent person is accused and then castrated? in any case, this is just too middle ages. causing sexual harm to people who have caused sexual harm to show that causing sexual harm is wrong? just like the death penalty. Didn't Ghandi say "An eye for an eye makes everyone blind?" i gotta get outta here.
seriously?? cutting balls off is low, even for a sex offender. mabey if he raped babies. or kittens. but it seems like the prison sentences they hand out now adays is good enough, not to mention how well they treat the rapist in jail. sodomy for 10 years is bad, but to be a eunich on top?? harsh, dude.......
hmmm not sure how i feel about this. while it is pretty harsh...so is rape. maybe its about time rapist men get whats been coming to them for thousands of years.
yeah....i know, rape is VERY horrible. i'm a feminist so of course i think so, but i guess i just don't think the federal government should mess with anyone's genitals. i mean, i thought abortion laws were an infringement on body privacy, but this takes it to a whole new level! i think it's not the government's place, though i agree that it's probably what rapists actually DESERVE.
Can't say that I agree with castration. I know the crimes that are committed are totally disrespecting life, but does castration make it better? It's really sad that the prision population is growing so fast that people (sorry not people but lawmakers) are getting so desperate. I often wonder if our society can ever get to the place of helping people and having people wanting to get help. My brother works in the prison system and I do accounting for law enforcement, so I get to see both sides. It's very disturbing to see how things continue to get worse.
Well maybe they won't indulge in their fantasies of overpowering a girl/boy if they know what's at stake...
or boy,,, males get raped too. It's power, not sex. here's what I found, based on a hunch they were talking about chemical castration: Enterprise-Journal, McComb, on "Castration bill needs shelving." While budgetary measures, including school funding and the grocery-cigarette tax argument, may garner the most headlines during this year's session of the Mississippi Legislature, there are plenty of other issues to offer a diversion from the weightier matters of finance and good government. Among bills that may or may not make it through committee are measures to castrate rapists, ban cosmetic surgery for inmates, expanding rest room facilities for women in state-owned buildings and allowing judges to pack weapons. Actually, some of what one newspaper called "weird bills" have some merit. The castration bill, though, is not among them. Not that we have any sympathy for rapists. Upon conviction, they should be locked up for a long time. But the bill introduced by Rep. Deryk Parker, D-Lucedale, puts Mississippi out too far on, shall we say, the cutting edge of criminal justice. Or, some could argue, it drags us back to a darker era. Only one other state of which we are aware has anything near what Parker proposes. Florida in 1997 passed a so-called "chemical castration" law requiring judges to order certain sex offenders to take drugs that lower testosterone levels, which in turn lowers sex drive. Even though it's on the books in Florida, the procedure has rarely been used, according to The Associated Press. This is from January. and some interesting legal-wonk reading: http://www.law.fsu.edu/journals/lawreview/frames/252/spalfram.html here's why I question the use of such a treatment. In a society with a strong tradition of individual rights, the onus is on the punishment to prove that it benefits far more than it would harm. If lowering testosterone levels would hamper the IMPULSE to rape or molest, then an argument could be made that it would benefit the society far more than harm select individuals. but lowered testosterone only blunts a sex drive and erectile ability. It does not keep a man from wanting to lash out. Indeed, if he cannot do the deed, he might resort in anger to rape by instrumentation, torture or murder. Rape is horrific, but life is livable after it. based on my comments above, I see the danger to society as INCREASING because of the treatment, and a man can disappear and not take the shots, resulting in more anger, more acting out and more violence.
For pedophiles and forcible rapists...slice 'em off, then lock them up for good in their own separate prisons. Bring back the headsman, as well. Violent crime is often treated way too leniently in the USA, while victimless crimes are harshly punished. Cease and desist in the idiotic ongoing "War on Drugs" and legalize drugs; legalize prosititution, adult female and male, and raise this occupation to the standard of a profession, with some system of health assurance for practitioners and customers; tax the hell out of the consumers of both, like for cigarettes and booze...a huge new revenue source for the U.S. Treasury, and a cessaton of $$$billions resource drain currently caused by the fight against these "evils".
For repeat offenders, slice it off. The system doesnt work...lets do something a little scarier than butt-rape in jail..they prob like that... If they don't consider girls/boys as people with their own rights...why should they get any rights?
Agree...these people are too far gone to "rehabilitate"...and regarding what happens in jail, off the top I'd also be inclined to agree with you. Only a profound inborn psychological disability can produce this kind of behavior, and as a society we can't afford the cost and risks of trying to make regular human beings out of these people. They need to be physically "disarmed" and separated permanently.
I agree that rape is about power, not sex. HOWEVER....Would you let a convicted murderer buy a gun? No, because they shouldn't have weapons you can kill with. So why should rapists be allowed to keep the weapon--their penis--they can rape with? (Note I said penisis...if you cut off their balls, they can still rape, as you don't rape people with just your testicles). And chemical castration is a joke... Is it barbaric? Sure, but that's one issue I take no leniancy on. Sexual violence is worse than murder, in my book.
ever seen the movie Hard Candy?? its about this pedofile who hooks up with a smart little preteen i dont wanna ruin the movie, but it involves castration, good flick.
Castration as a means of punishment is a deplorable idea. The mere suggestion, even advocacy of such an abominable assault on human rights leads me to question the humanity of both the Mississippi legislator who proposed it, as well as supporters. Under NO circumstances should torture be made into law! Obviously these people need to be punished, and in some cases completely cut off from society, however by passing such a barbaric practice into law they are opening the door for many more modes of torture and outright assaults on human rights. Under NO circumstances should any society with even the most basic foundations of morality be advocating torture as a means of punishment or prevention, that is ludicrous.
ever heard of a curling iron? would you rather be raped with a penis or a hot curling iron (I have someone who can give an informed comment on that in my family)? depriving a rapist of one "gun" will only make him seek another.
I am strongly opposed to the use of castration as punishment. Those Mississippi legislators should take out of copy of the Constitution (you know, that document with which they must so frequently wipe their asses) and read. Read it and see. Contemplate the notion of "cruel and unusual punishment."
Hmm...nope, I try not to spend my days pondering the latest in rape technology. It tends to depress me. But still, not having a penis would negatively impact the rapists life...He'd never have an orgasm again, and he'd have to pee in a bag the rest of his life. BTW, I also support mandatory life sentances for all rapists/pedophiles, just in case they do get out and use something else.
