because if theyre not legal, you cant ban them. consider their attitude towards currently illegal substances in contrast with their attitude to currently legal substances and try to think of a more plausible rationale than the one ive just given. How else can you explain pushing for legal access to things like heroin whilst simultaneously agitating for ever greater restrictions on tobacco use? It seems that far from opposing the ban on drugs they would simply prefer to do it in a slow, piecemeal fashion to prolong the enjoyment they derive from pushing people around.
Instead of trying to create some phony Right/Left debate -- where people are arguing over which side is better when they're in fact both the same -- why don't you ask yourself why the government gets away with shipping the majority of hard drugs, like cocaine, into this country everyday. Let's not avoid the real issues here.
Well for once I agree with Rat (although not for the same reasons) I don’t think this is a strictly left wing proposal in fact many right wingers (especially libertarians) are pushing for legalisation (although for different reason than the left). ** Let me get this straight Gravity, your argument seems to be that the left wants to legalise drugs so that they can then ban them? If so I don’t think you understand the thinking of many of us that are call for a more rational drugs policy. To me it is more about harm reduction and taking the trade out of the corrupting influence of criminal control. Opiate addiction (Heroin is actually a brand name from the time when opiates were legal) would be treated as a health issue and not a crime problem. Opiates would not be legally accessible (as some non-addictive drugs would be) but given to addicts through prescription under medical supervision. And the drugs policy would not stand alone but be part of a wide ranging holistic approach, that would involve other social and economic policies. ** All drugs can have a detrimental effect on people and society this has to be understood and means found to keep those effects down to a reasonable level. To me and many other the prohibition on drugs is having a much more detrimental effect on people than would be if drugs were decriminalised or legalised under regulatory control.
Wasn't there a time when cocaine, morphine, opium, etc.. were legal in the US? I remember hearing about being able to buy a "shoot up" kit from Sears Roebuck. It included a vial of morphine, a syringe, and a tie off band. I think the trouble with legalizing such addictive drugs is that if they are readily available, there is sure to be people that will try it just to see what it is like. In todays world it is hard enough to get ahead for some people, let alone trying to deal with a smack addiction. I think the social problems it would cause would be catastrophic.
"the majority"......come again? Your response to the Left/Right "phony" debate is to prompt us all to discuss a conspiracy theory?
Yes, the CIA ships the majority of cocaine into this country, as they have for the past 3 decades. And, no, I am not trying to get people to discuss "conspiracy theories," rather to come to the understanding that the Left and the Right and controlled by the same people at the top. The only differences are superficial ones, to give the illusion they are different, to dupe the public into voting "this side" or "that side."
I say let people smoke, ingest, shoot up,snort ect, whatever they want.Thins the ignoramases from the herd.Laws that put people in jail for smoking a plant are fucked up.Is it not more sensible to let folks kill themselves with the bad shit like meth, crack, ect, than to make society pay by getting murdered, stolen from, thrown in prison, taxed billions to keep a bureaucracy going that doesn't work anyway?Who benefits from these laws (he asks rhetorically)?Like proud2deviate said,It's ALWAYS about the money.Always.
Whether they are legal or not, people will do drugs. You'd think that the government would realize that this would not only lessen drug related violence, but boost the economy by tons. Can you imagine how much money would be brought in from the legalisation of pot alone?
I support anything a legal adult wants to do to their body. Some drugs like marijuana to me are not as bad as legal drugs like alcohol. It could also lead a big increase in govt tax revenue plus drugs like cocaine wouldnt create such a violent black market with high prices and shady dealers/dope.
The Conservative Thought Control Governing Bodies don't give a fuck about debate of this subject. They want to control by means of fear, manipulation, and greed. I hope they all die ... with a special kind of disease for greedy warmongers. Something that would eat their insides out slowly and feel like someone set fire to their guts. I'm not talking about "Republican/Democrat" either. I am talking CONSERVATIVE/TRADITIONAL/CLOSE-MINDED/MEDIEVAL NEANDERTHALISM.
Isnt it obvious - I mean are you on the right wing really that dumb?????? Ok In a general population of 60,000,000 people (and thats not sixty million smokers) around 30,000 people a year will die from the effects of tobacco smoke while heroin kills around 80 people a year - also nicotine is about 20 times more addictive than heroin Alcohol - responsible for more road deaths and liver disease and other drink relatd deaths and disorders than all the heroin use put together around 200,000 people in a population of sixty million end up in a casualty ward during a year for drink related crime and illness etc whereas for heroin its around 2,000 Overall Heroin is better value for the economy - especially if you have a national health service like britain where tax payers pay for everyone to be treated lets face it - alcohol and tobacco are dinosaur food - bring on the ecstacy and smack Instead of beligerence and bad breath we will have love and relaxedness
Okay some of you people already know I'm a Fascist, and I'll be honest here, if I ever were in power I'd legalize all " drugs ". What the hell is the big deal? Cocaine, Heroin, LSD, Ex, Marijuanna, so what? We should all know that if these goods were sold on today's market legally, the tax benefits would be sky high. Let's also not forget here that they all use to be legal, just like tobacco is today, but in 20 years give or take, it will most likely ALSO be illegal, believe it....well at least on this sorry excuse of a continent.
