Hi guys I went by the SPCA last night and adopted a 1 year old male Black Lab cross whos name WAS Skyler. His name is now Luther.

He has a bit of a skin condition, theres a patch that dosent grow back and its very dry. He scratched at it sometimes. I have been cutting my vitamin E and letchin pills and squeezing them into his food. I also bought an oatmeal shampoo that says its for dogs dry skin. Any other tips?

Since I brought him home hes had 5 diarehea's, 2 he couldnt make it outside for. Any tips to solidify his stool? This has been less than 16 hours ive had him.

Otherwise hes very happy, a licking monster, chewing monster, playing monster. Thanks guys.

Quit with the Vitamin E and pills then go to the vets and explain to them what is wrong?

I havent had the dog for 24 hours yet, its saturday, im not going to the vet for a non emergency.

Why would I quit the vitamin E? I went to the pet store to buy an oil to put in his food and ingrediant #1 was vitamin E, ingrediant #3 was letchin. Both of which I have at home, why would I not just use them as opposed to pay $20 for a bottle of prefab stuff. ($35 for a large bottle)

Everyone ive talked to so far has said the diahreha is normal when a dog moves into a new place. Previouslly he has been in a cage for the past 5 months.

I don't know much about the pills and that you are giving it. The skin condition needs looking at. Probably not ASAP but there's no harm in checking it out is there?

Hes getting better by the hour, we're on an hourly bathroom schedule and hes eating food with fibre in it. I gave him a shampoo with an oatmeal dog shampoo and his skin looks so much better. Plus every time i feed him i toss in 800 IU of Vitamin e and 1200mg of letchin. He dosent even notice.

I tried to feed him sardines but he didnt like them. Hes getting better by the hour. I'll check him in to the vet if he has a problem but I think its just been 5 months in a cage. Hes getting on a good diet now and a regular routine and lifestyle. Luther's digging it.

Patches of hair loss/itchiness can be anything from allergies to mange to ringworm.Take the dog to a vet for a skin scrape to rule out mange and ringworm and go from there.

raw eggs are good for dogs with skin problems so are small amounts of bacon. You don't want to feed them too much of the vit. or anything will give a dog a tummy ache.

have you wormed him if so worming tabs can give dogs diarehea, he may take time to get use to new food, try giving him a all in one dry food that contains all vitimans a dog needs, also raw egg and milk wisked up a couple of times a week is good for his coat, keep an eye on his skin condition and try a medicated shampoo, gl

Thanks for the replys guys, after 5 days he hadnt stopped the diahrehea and he started to vomit so I took him to the vet. Hes on two types of medication now and a different dogfood. His stool is much firmer. He is on de-worming medication. I was caught off guard as he was to have been dewormed before leaving the SPCA. Anyways they gave me a month of free pet insurance so Im only out $50 deductable. Which is good because the bill was crazy.

Here are some pictures of Luther after I took him on a long hike/run in the snow. He goes to bed right after.

He weighs 55lbs and his hobbys include licking my face, following me around, humping, chewing on things, going for walks.

What a cutie pie! So then was it just worms? I remember my dogs had gotten mange a couple years back. I brought my one dog to the vet because he was losing a lot of fur on his belly but the other dogs seemed fine. They put him on heavy doses of meds and it really goofed him up. They didn't treat him for mange. After my other 3 dogs started losing hair, I knew something was up. Brought them into a different vet and finally got it taken care of! Defintely no fun! Luckily, I didn't catch the mange myself.
