this is my first attempt at growing. i am starting a plant in the top 3 feet of my closet and heres what im using. I'm not sure what kinda seeds I am using I found them on my carpet and they look green and i cant crush them by squeezing a little so i am thinking they will work i have a mounted onto wall 15w cool white flourecent(i can move this but it would be a huge pain in the ass), and 2x 75w incandescent duramax's(they are in normal lamps but im gonna hang them upside down if it is needed) I am planning on using scotts plotting soil(with phosphorus) and miracle grow(bloom buster) in a clay pot. And I only want to grow 1 or 2 plants. will this work?
hmm from wut i read this wont work u need the dark brown seeds, u need hid lights or MH bulbs flourescents may only work for the begiing stages ull prob need something dif than miracle grow read posts here
The floro is the only usable light you have, and it's waaaay to small to grow anything. Your gonna need more than 3 feet. And order some seeds bro. You can get a pack of some quality for $15.
the height space there will really restrict you to growing throughout the seedling and veg stage. in order to induce flowering the plant has to be mature enough to sex, this is indicated by when the nodes start to alternate, this could happen between 7-12" and then when you start them flowering they will rapidly grow for the first 2-3 weeks and they will grow anything above 2.5 times the original height. The 15w cool tube is under powered and will not produce enough lumens to satisfy the plants, wouldnt even be enough to satisfy seedlings. The incadescents are just a total waste of time to grow with, i have seen numerous pictures of rediculous looking plants where a grow with incadescents has been attempted, it usually finishes with a 12" plant with one set of leaves that are forever searching for sufficient light. You could quite happily go the entire veg stage if you had cfls that produced enough lumens to satisify. For seedlings your going to need 400 lumens per square foot of cool blue light. For veg stage your going to need 2500 lumens per square foot, with as much blue spectrum as you can achieve so you will need to get cool cfls that are at least 40w to veg with. For flowering you need as a minimum 10,000 lumens to satisfy and this has to be in the red spectrum 2700k (warm) but a cfl that is powerful to do this is going to set you back and if you want to do multiple plants your going to be better off looking at a high pressure sodium to flower with. A lot of people try to find the cheapest way to grow but if you dont get the sufficient tools for the job all money you spend is wasted and you would have been better off just getting what you spent on grow gear and using it to buy herb from a dealer.
