this aleo vera ive been hearing is it a gel or a drink? i went a look around for it in health stores and i found the drink =/ much to my surprise lol. i didnt get it incase it wasnt it.
I think it's a gel. I've heard of people using in in place of wax. I too have been wondering about it.
You can now eat aloe vera cream, try it out. But yes, I did try out the drink, it's pretty good. It was fruit juice + aloe vera, really nice.
actaully i think i saw that one beside the one i saw.. jus assumin it was all the same stuff.. how do you use it? n how often?
use it like hair gel, just be careful to not use too much because it will end up making your hair really soft and then your shit starts coming apart... I put a bit in my hand and rub it into my scalp and whatever is left i palm roll individual dreads with.
By the way, aloe vera is a plant. People make gels out of it, and you can get a great, addititve free gel at your local healthfood store. I just wanted to clarify that...
I have the gel (100% aloe vera gel) and my hair's already pretty silky and soft...so I just use it (sparingly!) to smooth down frizzies. I tried using it like you'd use wax on a test dread and the dread loosened up hella fast. No fun...I might use it once my dreads mature, but I'm not putting it all over my baby dreads. so yeah, moderation.
yea the gel.. just been lookin for it but so far found the drink how YUM =\ do u get much out of a plant? guess u dont have to use much then.. i jus wanted to keep the frizz down now and then without usin dreadful wax *shivers*
Thought I'd bump this up coz someone was asking about aloe yesterday. You need to apply it quite sparingly. The couple of times I've used it, I just rubbed it between my hands like I was using lotion then ran my fingers through my dreads. Seemed to work quite well for frizz control, especially when my dreads were drying which is when they frizz up the most.
Ok, so I just decided to actually use a couple of leaves from my aloe plant and actually try to give my dreads a liitle moisture, they feel kind of like sandpaper, I've never done anything before to condition them. Anyway first of all I didn't get a lot comming out of the leaves really, that's wasen't really my problem though. I got one hell of a rash all over my hands from squeezing it and around my neck where my dreads were touching it owwwwweeeeee! Man my hands went totally bright red and my neck too. Luckly I've got some Dr bronner's peppermint lurking around still which I could cool it with. Point is I don't understand, I thought aloe vera was supposed to be soothing for the skin? I'm not usually allergic to anything. Weird. Anyway just thought I'd share, anyone else experience this? Did I do something wrong? I'm not doing that again anyway, at least not without gloves on and make damm sure it stays away from my skin. I think my dreads can just stay dry though, and sod using aloe vera again. It's put me right off!
Haha that would be funny. Well it was actually given to us by a friend, but yes I am 99.9% sure it's an aloe plant. Here it is.....
Maybe you should get some aloe vera gel (or better still pure juice drink) from the health food shop and do a small patch test the same way you would a hair dye. Smooth a little on the inside of your elbow and leave it 48hrs. It if flares you know you're allergic, if it doesn't your plant may not be aloe after all As for conditioning your dreadies... try an ACV rinse as that has a softening effect on the hair. Or if your dreads are reasonably well established, try a warm oil treatment using jojoba or wheatgerm oil. Just make sure you give it a good shampooing afterwards. Best of luck!
OMG that's not aloe! That's a giant dragon-shark man-eating fire-sap plant! Arrgh! Nah, looks like aloe from here
