I don't know if I agree with this. I shopped at IKEA and will never shop there again because I feel like I am in a merry-go-round prison. You know what I mean if you been in the store.

I can understand the effort to reduce cosumption. But, who profits from this? Will this really be effective? If this succeeds, we will be charged the same at a grocery store? Is that fair?

    I think there is a better alternative...Paper.

    Your thoughts, fellow hippies!

Don't go for paper bags, go for cloth bags that you can use for years.

I think it's a great idea to charge for bags.

I know of a couple local grocery stores that do that, and I've noticed, when shopping there, that people both reuse bags brought from home as well as recycle cardboard boxes that are left at the cashiers instead of using the 5 cent bags.

If this encourages others to recycle packaging in other stores, then so be it, it cuts down on the amount of plastic (and paper) being uselessly used and thrown away.

I go to a couple places that do that and I don't mind. I just bring my own bags.

Fuck Ikea, Fuck them with their own smutty swedish positons, then beat em with a Spoogla (Spoogla - Is what apparently a table is called in sweden)

They sell some grade A high quality bullshit there, i bought two tables from em and they fell apart in like a month, tried to get a refund and i had to contact the manufacturer in FukYuOverAss Scandanavia

Wanna Stop Consumption!? stay away from IKEA!

I thought that at Ikea, you don't get to keep the bag. So if they are now charging $0.05, does that mean you can bring the bag home with you now? (Am I just confused?)

booshnoogs, you're thinking of the bag you carry around with you in the store. The cents refers to the plastic bags you get at cash after buying your items.

and joe, it kinda sucks that you had that unfortunate thing with IKEA stuff.... I've half of the furniture in my house from IKEA, it's all lasted as long as 5 years, I've yet to have anything fall apart on me... Luck of the draw, I suppose.

So you propose we reduce consumption by turning consumers into durable shopping bags? Hmm. That does kill two birds with one stone. Kudos for thinking outside the box.

I think everywhere should charge for bags. It's important we learn that they are not just disposable entities that will just evaporate into the air. We don't need more plastics and we don't need more waste. Lots of stores are now selling cloth bags that you can re-use for long periods of time...I just use my backpack anyway though cause it's easier to walk with...But anyway, I think this is good.

I try... and it gets me to the church on time.

Yet for some reason I don't believe in modern love.

    Hmm.

I dislike ika for anything other than kid's rooms. I think their furniture is mass produced cheap looking crap.
I relate to the above poster. I feel claustraphobic and uncomftrable in the store. It is like a freaking maze with no windows.
When I was broke and had to get furniture I hit up antique auctions and got some killer things for only a bit more than ikea stuff.

I've never been to Ikea, but think I may have to visit a store soon to see how much furniture I can seruptitiously destroy on their showroom floor.[IMG]
