How do you get the necessary materials and all that to get started,, I want to start homeschooling my little girls, but Im so lost on how to start, help me please,,
Google homeschool. There are plenty of homeschooling companies with online catalogs, visit boards and lurk and learn. Figure out your state teaching requirements www.hslda.org Conservative bent but informative as far as laws go. Try vegsource homeschool and the well trained mind.
How old are your girls? There are lots of great online resources and for depending on what you want to study your local library can be a treasure trove of great material. H
Go to the bookstores. Go to the library. Check out your local nature center. Find out where the environmental groups are. Look on Yahoo for homeschooling groups in your area. Get out of the house and find things to do. Provide your kids with art supplies, books, games. Let them help you cook, clean the house, play games with them. Go for walks. Go to museums. Take them to the grocery store. Start doing all this stuff and you are homeschooling. You really don't need a lot of "stuff". You need to "Do". Kathi
for my family, it's all a matter of talking to my kids, actually interacting with them, all day, every day. We don't need special curriculum, but some families feel much more comfortable using one (they can be really expensive). But you do need to be familiar with your state's laws regarding homeschooling, whether you have to register through the state, through a church, or whatever. You may also find that the homsechool laws are rather unconstitutional (thanks to the HSLDA, a Christian organization) as they are in my state, and choose civil disobedience instead.
There are great teachers resources online and there is nothing stopping anyone from using them whichever system you are working in. These include lesson plans, projects, resources, the works. The amount out there is too much to post but if you want any ones I have run across give us a pm!
you can start out at teaching store, online, librarys, hell even walmart has teaching materials. see if you have a homeschooling group in your area and if you do alot of them are willing to pass on materials that your kids will need. a good place to get organized with a schedule is homeschool inc. you can find it if you google homeschool and look for a section that records and tracks for free. you get a whole setup so each day you just log on and it tells you what you have planned for the day and you can keep records of there work grades assignments, ect.
I purchased Oak Meadow Curriculum for the first couple of years I homeschooled and was quite pleased http://www.oakmeadow.com/ After gaining some experience, I eventually began mixing and matching curriculums, pretty much creating our own according to my sons' interests, abilities, etc... Networking/conversing with other homeschooling moms helps too: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MothersForLiberty/
