Today I washed my hair and noticed a few locks with some gunky black stuff in them. It is the remnants of rubberbands from almost 2 years ago. I thought i had taken out all of the rubberbands but it turns out I fucked up on a few of them. So I tried to get the gunk out but failed miserably... so i cut! but dont worrry just the 3 ends with rubbergunk in it. Just wanted to advice people not to use rubberbands... even if you think youll remember to take them all out after a week or so you will probably forget one... here are pictures of the aftermath. enjoy!
Bemus Point huh? I live in Buffalo, my in-laws have a trailer right on Lake Chattaqua. shittttttty bout the bands.....
Dude, that's gross, and I'm glad that you got them out. I used rubberbands, but I only used them for a month, and then meticulously removed every one. There is nothing in my hair but hair. (And probably a little dust and such) Namaste
Yeah, rubber bands get kinda sucked into the dread which doesn't cause a "problem" ( yeah right, but that's what they say on some dreadlock sites) but you really don't want bands locked in your dreads. Either way, I'm glad you got the gunk out!
bump: I forgot about this post and I feel this could be important for the plethora of new people rolling around the forums these days.
A boy bvat my school who has dreads but doesn't like me too well has bands in his har. I'm absolutely itching to tell him to take them out.
It depends on the rubber bands. I think theres a few different types of rubber bands. I had some around the roots of some dreads (because I forgot about them....) For maybe.. 5 or 6 months? And when I id take them off (I had to cut them) They were just like normal rubber bands, only a bit stretched. On the other hand, I had this other packet which just broke every time I'd stick one on.
