Only laughed a few times in this 'comedy' For it is not a comedy. It's a great movie about life and falsity of the rubbish called 'what we are supposed to be like to be normal'. Olive's final scene as a dancer is a classic. The destruction [choreographed by grandpa] of the subtle paedophilic aspect of child beauty paegents is a must to see. Loved it Most IMDB comments said, we laughed our heads off. Yes, easy to do and the only escape, when the horror of knowing ones 'normal' life as defined by accepted social convention, Is a farce in rational reality. These people are NORMAL. And more 'open and revealing' than most watching the movie. This is one of the first 'aspects' of the movie occam loved. Occam Ps#1. The tattoed guy at the paegent was a truely honest man. He came to see little girls flout their stuff. lol Ps#2 Once again.. Actress Beth Grant takes on roll of the mindless shrew just as in donnie darko. She does it well.
Sorry to disagree a little, but I laughed my head off. I thought the comedy had depth, and I loved the way the writer and director made a real effort to insert the audience into the family, make them "part of." So you might feel like you're laughing at yourself, but you're still laughing your ass off. Loved it. Hands down, the best comedy of the year.

this movie wasnt very funny, it did have a few laughs. its suppose to be a serious movie based on dry humor. saying there life is so bizarre its funny. i hate these crazy familys that act like its normal, and its suppose to be funny. the beauty pagent was sick. it just shows how awful the parents are. the little girl didnt know any better, but should've felt uncomfortable stripping. except here peers told her this was acceptable. they honestly did love there daughter, but have no clue what morals and ethnics are. if you think the beauty pagnet was funny, then you should think little girls wearing mini-skirts is hilarious. both are extremely sick, sicker if your a male.
if you think the beauty pagnet was funny, then you should think little girls wearing mini-skirts is hilarious. both are extremely sick, sicker if your a male. Snow ultra Little girls wearing miniskirts is what society wants. There are HUGE child beauty paegents in the US with flocks of little girls dressed up as adult women. In miniskirts and much less Check out child swimsuit beauty paegents. Little girls in thong bikinis... THAT is sick. What olive did is put shit on that. She flaunted nothing.. never showed much at all But her attitude is what crapped on the 'accepted' Grandpa knew it. You dont seem to see it. Occam
It wasn't much of a comedy, but it was a rather entertaining movie. I loved the mix of light-full-of-life and dark plot. Very nice movie... Not necessarily "good", or anywhere close to some of the great movies produced... But that wasn't the intention of the movie in the first place, so it's all good. Defenatly worth the watch.
I loved it. The irony, the sarcasticness. It wasn't "The Best Movie Ever", but it was full of really SMART humor that I thought was fantastic.
I've been hearing this movie is amazing. I have yet to check it out, even though all my friends have seen it and loved it. This is next on my list.
I fucking LOVED this movie. I cried when the boy found out that he was colour blind and wouldn't be able to be a pilot. He acted incredibly well, especially given the challenge of his part - creating a character without using words. I can't wait to buy it on DVD.
I loved it. It's unique that my initial impression of all those characters was off, they all developed so nicely throughout their journey. I liked the depiction of how the very act of getting on the road can influence relationships. It's uplifting because you can see them connecting to one another on a higher level and becoming closer as a family. Grandpa was an awesome character and I could better appreciate Steve Carrell after seeing this.
i really liked this movie as well one of my favorites. when they take the grampa out through the window i laughed so hard. that kid who didnt say anything was a good actor. and i liked how when he did start talking it wasnt a weird transition from him being silent. Olive rocks. i wish she would have won! there was an snl skit with drew barry more as host where they made fun of dakota fannings no oscar nominations and how abigale was nominated. it was funny. kind of felt bad for dakota though.
I've just finished downloading it. i'm gonna go have a session once my flatmate pisses off and then I'm gonna watch it. Can't wait.
I love this movie. I mean love. It definately wasn't a funny movie, and that's all I heard before I saw it. Most people I talked to said they laughed through the whole parts; I had a few chuckles and giggles, a few laughs.. but a movie doesn't have to be funny to be good. I loved the boy. If his character wasn't there I wouldn't have liked it. I cried when he realized he was colour blind, as someone else said.
