hey just thought id share...sad to see another one go... RCMP shut down local grow-op By Delynda Pilon Over 300 marijuana plants, growing equipment, and three unsecured rifles were seized from a farm Southwest of Burdett by RCMP last week. Bow Island/Foremost RCMP, with the help from police from other detachments, executed a search warrant on the local farm. They discovered over 240 plants hidden among corn in the corn field, as well as over 50 other plants in a shed under lights and timers. The plants varied in size from about two feet tall, to over seven feet tall. Most of the plants weren't yet ready for harvest. The dollar value of the seized plants hasn't yet been calculated by RCMP. Three people were arrested at the site, and have been charged. A 38-year-old male from Burdett was charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession for the purpose of trafficking in marijuana, and unsafe storage of firearms. A 26-year-old female, also of Burdett, was charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana, and possession for the purpose of trafficking in marijuana. The third person, an 18-year-old male from Bow Island, faces the same charges. The three will appear before a provincial court judge in Medicine Hat on October 28.
While that does suck - growing pot plants in a corn field is never a good idea, especially that many, unless the field was many square miles. Its just very easy to spot from the air, both in appearance and the amount of heat the plants give off in comparison to corn plants. Considering the profits they would generate from an operation that large, they could have been a bit more smart about it. Its a bummer though, that's for sure. Had it been in British Columbia would they have been arrested as well? I'm not certain of Canadien laws, just been told BC is pretty liberal.
LOL its funny every one is so hopped up on B.C. most of western canadas laws are the same. the thing is they are leninet on poss. of small personal amounts. however the price for growers and main streem dealers has risin. But yea its not that B.C is the only lax place on stuff....its just some of the best weed comes out of there. however the med feilds that belong to the gov of canada in norhtern manitoba have some good stuff too
the gov pot is terrible pot and has been sent back by most of the testers as it was useless to them. the gov then produced better pot, but still not street level worthy, nad they deemd it too potent so it was never released. as far as harsher sentecnes go, theres nothing on that yet as the proposed legislation hasn't even passed yet, let alone come into effect. as far as sentencing goes in b.c. ...true they do have the same laws but canadian court procedures are based on a prior precident. a max sentence means nothing because its almost impossible to be sentenced to the max as others for the same crime have gotten off on less. in b.c. if you have under 100 plants, you won't get more than 30 days in jail, and a 5000 dollar fine...and those are for the extreme cases. at anyrate its shitty about the grower =/. good luck to him next year.
dude....he's a farmer. ... if he didnt have a gun you'd know something was up. if the police raided a lumber yard, and said they found enough wood to build a housing unit for 1000 nuclear war heads...would you assume they were terrorists?
yer, farmers need guns to keep ppl from stealing their produce. but i dont see hwo theyw ere unsafe. maybe they were automatics.
Hey, not too long ago there was a HUGE pot bust in the old Molson beer factory in Barrie Ontario, was all over the news around here when it happened. Here is a quote from the London free press on the bust ... " Inside police found marijuana with what they said had street value of $30 million along with a grow operation of staggering proportions" Peace - J
unsafe STORAGE of fire-arms. and hell, when you're dealing with that much shit, i'd be damned if you caught me without some sorta gun. and shit, for real, they are farmers.
