Very Nice! are you close to any towns/cities? Im guessing you are near the sea with the life-rings on the side of the house?

Ripple: We live about 4 miles out of the town of Seward and about 125 miles south of Anchorage.
Yes we are on the coast, at the head of Resurection Bay about 14 miles north of the Gulf of Alaska.
I worked on Tug Boats and frieght vessels for many years and have a collection of maritime stuff.

Nice place. :) That last one looks like a post card or a Bob Ross painting. Ross lived in Alaska a while and you could tell by his paintings he was influenced by it.

Nice place! Interested in your roof. I can see it's steel, what is decked under it? And what is the snow load rating there?

I ask because I am planning to build in the mountains of WV soon and need some ideas.

    Zoomie:
The roof is timber frame that are 5"X12" true dimensional. The roof decking is 3"X12".
Due to the pitch of the roof it doesn't hold much snow be for it slides off.
Snow load rating ? This is rural Alaska. But I'm sure ours is 3 times what any codes are.
Once I get more pics loaded on my lap top, I'll post some pics of the inside and basement of the cabin...

Thanks Dennis. I noticed the pitch but code requirements still stand. In moderate snow zones it varies from 75 - 200psi. Can't wait to see more pics.

    Pressed Rat:
Built most of it. Subcontracted out some, such as, the well, the certified septic system system, the concrete work for the basement and the upper timber frame.
Everything else was all a family project.....Dennis

The cold frames are really the only way to go in order to extend the growing season. I use them myself.

Great pictures Dennis. And you also could not get mistaken for anything but an Alaskan. Quite some snow you got there in that first one.

Thank you all for the nice replies.

Freein: Yep, us Alaskans are branded. Picture to follow. Or is it a bit touched in the head ?
Hummblebee: Adoption ? Lets talk, do you like to garden, fish, single ?
Our youngest son is single, owns his own home , just needs a good kick in the
    ass by the right lady.

OK, here you go. Too many cocktails, warm day and the Mrs. with her camera.
Plus my poor old knees were killing me that day......
