I don't have access to a camera yet due to moving out of my parents' house, but I cut my dreads off about three weeks ago. I miss them, but I'm glad I did it. There was a lot of mold in them and I didn't use wax. I just used Dr. Bronner's soap. A lot of people are all about Dr. Bronner's, but it gave me mold. Did this ever happen to anyone else? I miss having a dread head though.

bummer to hear you cut your dreads off! Good luck on the next leg of your journey though :)

I dont' think it had to do with the Dr. Bronner's, honestly. If you don't get most of the water out of your hair after washing...and don't rinse well enough...that water will sit right in there and mold...it happens...

I'm sorry to hear that you cut them off.

I remember you telling us stories about how you used to soak your hair to keep you cool during the summer. If it didn't dry properly afterwards, that could've contributed to the mold.

    Namaste

    Sorry to hear... :(

Soap doesn't cause mold, water does. :(

I don't blowdry it...I ring it out REALLY REALLY well...each individual dread gets rung out several times.

I use a blow dryer... Because - A. I'm afraid of mold! B. My neck hurts if I let cold, wet hair chill out on it. C. I follow up with Aloe so that it doesn't dry out my hair too much. D. It would take a LONG time for my hair to dry completely, especially right now when it's 0 degrees outside.

I can only blowdry my hair for so long...just long enough to get some of the outside hairs dry. Without dreads it took a good 30 minutes to dry my hair completely. With dreads it would take hours...so I just let it dry all day, taking a blowdrier to it every now and then for a minute or two. I can't wait until it's warm out so I can sit outside in the sun after a wash!

I ring it out, then use a blow dryer, then I ring it out with a towel. Then about 2 hours air dry.

    That always works.

I also ring out each individual dread, and mad towel rubs.
