People we are about to be undone, I've been watching this illigal administration with mounting concern. One thing I've been saying since the last election is there may be no more elections. I had hoped I didn't really believe it. How I conjectured this would happen was by the imposition of martial law, well guess what...... Making martial law easier Source: New York Times Author: staff “A disturbing recent phenomenon in Washington is that laws that strike to the heart of American democracy have been passed in the dead of night. So it was with a provision quietly tucked into the enormous defense budget bill at the Bush administration’s behest that makes it easier for a president to override local control of law enforcement and declare martial law. The provision, signed into law in October, weakens two obscure but important bulwarks of liberty. One is the doctrine that bars military forces, including a federalized National Guard, from engaging in law enforcement. Called posse comitatus, it was enshrined in law after the Civil War to preserve the line between civil government and the military. The other is the Insurrection Act of 1807, which provides the major exemptions to posse comitatus. It essentially limits a president’s use of the military in law enforcement to putting down lawlessness, insurrection and rebellion, where a state is violating federal law or depriving people of constitutional rights. The newly enacted provisions upset this careful balance.” (02/19/07) The Republic(which I'll pretend I think still exists, along with the rest of "We the Sheeple") is in grave danger. Ask yourself why this (m)administration has been systematically raping the constitution, What possible motivation could there be, other than to take actions forbidden by that constitution, I don't give an airborne intercourse about conspiricy theories, but I can read the writing on the wall. Can you? This delusional megalomaniac must be stopped, write your federal representitives today, demand impeachment proceedings be initiated, before it is too late and we no longer have a president of a democracy, but a dictator of a police state. sine cera A patriot of a government of, for, and by the PEOPLE
EXCELLENT insights and overview! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marty-kaplan/the-founders-fumbled_b_40080.html Marty Kaplan 01.31.2007 The Founders Fumbled "The system worked" is what so many of us breathed with relief when Nixon fled Washington in disgrace. No matter that it was Nixon's own paranoia -- in the form of secret White House tape recordings -- that did him in, not just the majesty of a Senate investigation; no matter that it took the luck of Barry Goldwater's it's-time-for-you-to-go statesmanship, and the offended ego of a Deep Throat, not just the splendor of the Fourth Estate, to get him to quit. What we told ourselves was that the country escaped its worst constitutional crisis ever because the Constitution contained within itself the mechanisms needed to overcome catastrophe. >snip< Bush is certifiably delusional, but impeachment is off the table, because Democrats can't muster the kind of political will and outrage at a tragically misconceived war that Republicans could summon for a blowjob. Cheney is an outlaw, a Rasputin, a tyrant, a liar, but there is no check to check him, no balance to balance him. "When the axe came to the forest, the trees said the handle is one of us."
I have definitely heard people say this and can totally see it. The Bush Administration is constantly breaking the Constitution, I really don't think thats very democratic to just bend the rules that apply to you even if you are president. But for some reason he has the power to do so and he knows that, and I think you're right, it could very well end up a dictatorship and that is horrifying. I don't think it will happen though, too many people are against him now.
Where was congress when he slipped this through. Or was it done with their knowledge and agreement. Questions need to be answered by our representatives.
Greetings Magic, What this law does is add yet even more power to the executive branch of the government, as much as his abuses need to be brought to peoples attention, even if you take "the shrub" out of the picture, this law is still chilling. Martial Law puts the military in place as the local law enforcement. remember these are combat troops, not "peace officers", as well, who is their boss? The commander in chief, currently, the thief in the whitehouse. The peoples voice must be raised. Think about this, just how many is "too many", and to what level will they be vocal, let alone take action, particularly if it requires facing down tanks? What ever that number may have been it just shrank by probably 95%. My point is that we can not let it come to that, he must be stopped now, the people must be heard. The people who will listen, are the people who are well aware that they are still accountable to the people, and who were just reminded last election of what displeasing the people can mean. Writing to representitives in congress and the senate involves a minor inconvienience, I'm thinking that to overcome the inertia of the apathy that has settled like an anesthetic over "We The People", all that is needed is a little movement, it is a lot easier to accelerate an object already in motion, than one at a dead stop. These representitives are a lot more vulnerable to popular vote, and are well aware of that, if enough of the "too many against him" tell these folks that not only will they lose your vote but everyone who you can convince that they stood by doing nothing while the constition, and liberty perished in the hands of a traitorous megalomaniac ( well you don't have to call him that ) In any case good lady thank you very much for replying to my post, I sine cera appreciate it. Fare thee well, wheresoever thee may fare
Right On Gardener! Your damn straight they do, and the questions need be asked by as many as can compose a letter or email. The practice of putting "stringers" (don't know the official term offhand) on unrelated legislation is in my opinion, devious and a blatant abuse of legislative power. I am told that after the Patriot Act II was defeated by both houses, that every provision within it ended up being passed in this manner. I am uncertain of this however. The Constitution and the bill of rights have been shredded, I still assert that this is no longer the country based on those documents. sine cera
Man, I'll tell you what ..... this brings to mind thoughts of the Hitler regime and what he did to people. I had idea the martial law thing had been passed. Bush is a sneaky bastard, and he has gotten a lot of new laws pushed thru by taggin 'em onto the ends of other bills that they have absolutely nothing to do with. How can the system be arranged in such a way to allow this kind of activity by our alleged leader? (I use that term very loosely here). It's nuts, but I know what you're saying here is true, vcr; because I been discussin it with other people at work. I tell you, man; we're headed down the road to massive destruction. But you're right - the situation is very serious now. We - each and every one of us - have gotta write our congressman and demand his impeachment NOW before he takes anymore of our liberties away. That brings me to this question, vcr: how do we write our congressman? I mean, how do we find out who our congressman is, and is it enough to send him an email? Where do we find his email address? Let us know, vcr. If the Democrats won't impeach him, "We The People" can! tellyawhatpal
Don't demand impreachment, that's not going to happen. Demand that your congressmen and senators explain to you why they voted for this that will make more impact. To find out who are elected to your area just do a google with your zip code. That should bring them up.
