Speaking as a fat guy... If you want to hate me based on my size, and that you think I eat loads of twinkies (which i don't), that's fine. There are people who have a problem with me because I don't weigh in at 165 pounds. And that's OK, if that's your problem with me..But it's your problem. I think hating people of color based on their race is wrong. Nobody gave them the option to be Black, White or Blue. We all have every opportunity to build their character into something that someone loves or hates. Another thing they didn't have much control over was to be taken from their homeland and turned into slaves, and treated in ways that we would not subject animals too. And the word ****** was one of the names that was given to them, to keep them in a repressed state. There was no dignity in it, and it was given to them in the spirit of hate. I've heard the word bandied about in the black community. I am told that it's used as an acknowledgement of where they have been and how far they have come. I don't know how accurate that is. But I don't think it's a bad thing to erradicate a word that was born out of hate, and holds no positive connotation to it. I'd be happy to never hear it again.
that's ridiculous you can't censor people's speech. thats a bad pathway to go down. before you know it there will be dozens of words we can't say and people will be getting arrested over it. you can't control people like that... bad move i say besides, ban one word and people will come up with another. those people will be racist no matter what they can or cant say
Certainly I do too. And I also think it's wrong to hate a person for being overweight, especially since the propensity to be hefty is often genetic. You yourself don't eat many twinkies. I'm not going to approach supporting slavory, however, language is dynamic. The fact of a misuse of a historical region as a slur doesn't inherently effect it's meaning. Language is about context, using powerful language such as niger became much more preveleant at the time of the hip hop boom. It was a profound social statment to use such a shocking word in reference to the srtuggle of a community. Censorship is a form of breeding fear. I have several black friends who call my irish ass ******. To admonish unpleasent language for the sake of the few robs context, and in that sense words truly become meaningless. Words are just a system of sounds which meaning is ascribed to. They are meaningless alone, and can be deeply profound in context.
I am a punk... ANARCHY IN THE UK!!!!!!! YEAH!!!! Yes, I met Beavis when I was 12 ish... I turned the TV on once, and there he was.
Speaking as an african american, I want you to know I've suddenly gained new respect for the you, and the rest of your overweight, circumferentially challenged, and diametrically disadvantaged brethren Hotwater
