What's the difference between neoliberalism and neoconservativism?

I've read a few books on globalization. So far, I'm mostly through The Corporation(I've seen the movie), I've read Chomsky's Failed States and Hegemony or Survival. I also read through this month's Adbusters and a lot of Michael Moore. The only problem is that I don't know the difference between neoliberalism and neoconservativism. I get that neoliberalism is about loosening regulations, but not much else. Can anyone help me out?

    From Wikipedia

    Neoconservatism-
" 1. Economics: Cutting tax rates in order to stimulate steady, wide-spread economic growth and acceptance of the necessity of the risks inherent in that growth, such as budget deficits.
    2. Domestic Affairs: Preferring strong government but not intrusive government, slight acceptance of the welfare state, adherence to social conservatism, and disapproval of counterculture.
    3. Foreign Policy: Patriotism is a necessity, world government is a terrible idea, statesmen should have the ability to accurately distinguish friend from foe, protect national interest both at home and abroad, and the necessity of a strong military. "

    Neoliberalism-
"Neoliberalism is a term used to describe government policies aiming to promote free competition among business firms within market, notably liberalization and monetarism [1]

Neoliberalism is associated with the theories of Friedrich Hayek, economics departments such as that at the University of Chicago (and such professors as Milton Friedman and Arnold Harberger), and international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (none of whom use the name "neoliberal"). In general, neoliberalism represents a move away from the Keynesian economics that were dominant immediately after World War II. The philosophy promotes a "liberalization" of capital markets (thus called "neoliberal reform").

More specifically, neoliberalism promotes a stable currency, a balanced budget, free market capitalism, and free trade. Characteristic aspects include expansion of the market to a 24-hour global trading cycle, contract maximalization, increase in the frequency of contracts, continuous assessment, and derivative markets.

Opponents argue that neoliberalism is the implementation of global capitalism through government/military interventionism to protect the interests of multinational corporations, as well as the effects of so-called "free trade" on wages and social structures. Notable opponents to neoliberalism in theory or practice include economists Joseph Stiglitz and Amartya Sen, Noam Chomsky,[2] and the anti-globalization movement."

Alright, thanks for the information. So the liberal in neoliberal is not like the traditional left-wing liberal. That was confusing.

It's all labels. You see, they give Left and Right to the masses, but the people at the top don't subscribe to any party or political affiliation. They might play the role, but they are all globalists working towards a global agenda. That's why it doesn't matter if it's a Democrat or Republican in office, the agenda never changes.

elites working towards a global agenda..but working together? I wouldn't be surprised if there was some internal conflict..After all, one could always use some more power and control...Its a system that could cave in because of selfisness..maybe. can we assume that this is perfectly cohesive?

My teacher mentioned elites in class today and quickly dismissed it "I don't really buy into that elite stuff like Domhoff" she said in reference to his book that we are reading. I am shy but man, I wanted to offer some possibilities to why we maybe should buy into it.

I think even Domhoff holds himself back a little, but defiantly makes good points that hint towards other feelings, though none of it being popular to the majority so he never delves into some of the points he makes. Its an okay book.

Yeah I think the true problem lies more with the elitists using their influence to control the common man. The labels left and right (liberal/conserative) are a smoke screen that is used to divide the voting public and force them to takes sides. And sometimes a side that isn't really looking after their best interests.

that's why i hate the two-party system. in my opinion it leads only to ignorance and apathy... politicians use it to get votes, and it prevents voters from looking at the real issues; instead, they vote by party affiliation. close-mindedness at its finest.

Yet somehow you managed to crack this century-old, Jewish, world-wide conspiracy using only a shitty PC and unsubstantiated websites.

Somehow I hoped our political overlords had more than Pinky-and-the-Brain level competence.

it's not a conspiracy... it's politics. most americans are just too stupid to look at issues... of course parties in power are going to have similar agendas. history shows us that... it's no big secret

You obviously haven't spent enough time watching PR lecture on street corners with his tinfoil hat.

Undefined use of the word 'they' and non-stop conspiracy theory buzzwords. Trust me, he isn't talking about the Republicans.

Jewish conspiracy? Please, that is the oldest trick in the book, to denounce those who question the truth behind world events as "anti-semites." Zionism does play a role in the overall agenda, but it's just one faction among many. You could just as easily say it's the communists, or the capitalists, or the Jesuits... at the top they're all one and the same, and are controlled and manipulated by the few at the top for their own agenda. Anyone who says it's a Jewish conspiracy (or the conspiracy of any ONE particular group) is feeding you disinformation.

Secondly, I don't get my information from "unsubstantiated websites." That's another tactic used to discredit those who seek the truth. Make them out to be nothing more than a bunch of internet conspiracy theorists with too much time on their hands. This is more than just a hobby for me. Much of my information comes from books and hours spent in libraries combing through old books nobody reads. I also know people and have family members who were former government insiders, so a lot of my information comes from them as well. I don't subscribe to what every cookie-cutter conspiracy website says, as there IS a lot of disinformation put out there to mislead and discredit those seeking the truth. I don't even visit a fraction of the conspiracy sites, because most of them cover what I already know.

Neoliberalism is an economic policy, promoting developments of free trade blocks, and free trade agreements, and general economic liberalization in most if not all forms.

Neoconservatism generally refers to a military platform. One who supports radical regime changes to stabalize regions or support the regional influence through military means is a neocon.

It is entirely possible to be a neoliberal and a neocon.

The oldest trick in the book is to use the word "zionist" when you mean jew. You should know.
I would call 'smoking guns' about hearing a 20 second countdown for WTC7 demolition sent to Dylan Avery by some guy named Bob from his hotmail account to be unsubstantiated. Why don't you?
And then some of it, like the thoroughly discredited '96 second collapse time' of the WTC, is stuff you don't understand but copy and paste into webforums and then run away from as soon as anybody attacks it.

Should there be a death penalty? Should abortion be legal? Should you be allowed to own handguns? Should gays be allowed to marry and adopt children? Should drugs be legal? Should we do nothing as hundreds of thousands are killed in Darfur? Should we have universal state provided health care? Is free trade good?

The answer to none of these questions can be found by "researching" the numerology practices of 32nd circle freemason zionists. Although some of Rat's ideology is extreme right, the real reason it isn't left or right is because it doesn't stand for much of anything at all.

Lets sort this out then. Against my better judgement, I'll give you a chance to convince me.

I'm Canadian. Give me examples of how your Illuminati (or Jewish bankers or whatever the hell you seem to think does this) control my life. Give me a bill they got the government to pass. A court judgement decided. An interest rate set. A foreign policy set. Tell me anything.
