Yeah i saw that. I agree. It is a little hypocritical of him. It was quite funny to see that certain things he puts his name to - are worse than a McD burger. What with organic farming supposedly not as wonderful as some think. I think Charles needs a re-think. I imagine if i only eat his pasties i'd be fat and unhealthy .The same as if i was to only eat McDs or a bag of chips from my local F+C shop. The Duchy Originals Cornish Pasty carries more calories, fat and salt on a gram for gram basis than a Big Mac, which is the signature product of the McDonald's chain. The pasty carries 264 calories per 100g, which is considerably more than the 229 per 100g of the Big Mac. Similarly, the fat in the Cornish pasty, which is made from beef, potato, swede, onion and pastry, is put at 13.6g per 100g, which is also higher than the 11.12g in the Big Mac. The same pattern is seen with saturated fat at 5.5g in the pasty versus 4.17g in the Big Mac. The salt level in the pasty is considerably higher at 1.25g versus 0.93g. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=438997&in_page_id=1770 Everything in moderation i say. I love McDs Vegie burgers
Unfair - the majority of food would need that type of label on. Even some of the products in Charles food range. Maybe ''If you eat 6 of these a day and sit on yur ass and do nothing - their is a distinct possibility you may keel over cluching your chest. You might want to reduce the No. You eat''
I think hamburgers should be an illegal substance. Everyone who puts meat between 2 pieces of bread should be arrested...that's the only way. It would be much more exciting to eat one if I was breaking the law
As mcdonalds have been forced to deprive people of salt, I find myself actually saying that none of Mcdonalds food has any taste. Even the cola has been drained of salt. No salt, surely this is a health issue?
I think it's a good thing the government has banned salt. I don't like salt, and salt is bad for you. In my view they should introduce means to have all salt removed from peoples bodies.
In which case you would die a quick but remarkable painful death. Ever heard of osmosis? As in, we NEED some salt inside our cells to give them a lower water potential (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_potential) than the surrounding tissue fluid so all the water doesn't just leak out and make our cells shrivel up and die. Also, sodium (one of the components of common salt, sodium chloride NaCl) along with potassium which we get from vegetables among other things, is needed to transmit electrical potential impulses along nerves. So basically, without salt you're dead.
Aye, Leah Betts' death has often been seen as an example of the dangers of ecstacy. But really, it was too much water and not enough salt that killed her....
I think Mcdonalds have taken steps to make food healthier. I think that with all the other things that are bad for us, it is confusing why everyone has kind of hit at mcdonalds. sure they sell fast food but they don't literally drag you in when you pass by. Now salt has become a no no when in the right moderation, salt is actually integral to our very existence. To think that this new food culture is basically airing toward a dictatorship in that a nanny state suggests we eat celery and watermelons and to dub salt as terribly bad for you. Yes, salt in high doses is bad for you. I think as adults, we can adopt a discipline on how much salt we consume. Anyone who tries to eat a bowl of salt on its own will probably feel sick at this point. The key is to ration your trips to fast food restaurants, cut back on ready meals and try and encourage your Satanic kids into cooking from fresh, ingredients that can be found in your local market or supermarket. We don't need some nanny state telling us what to eat and what not to eat. I thought we got over rationing. Anyway I can see that if anyone should condemn anyone, it should be the tobacco factory and our goverment for continuing to keep tobacco legal. Also encouraging people to buy ciggerettes tax free at airports. Tax free on tobacco should be scrapped. As with salt, you would be doing more harm to yourself by kicking it out of your diet just because a few health freaks terrorise the nation with Gothic horrors on sea salt.
you know, a lot of people use potassium choride (KCl) in place of regular salt, especially if they have high blood pressure. they say it tastes the same. i never thought so, makes my mouth taste metallic. but anyway, why don't they switch?
I'm sure it wouldn't taste exactly the same. Why don't they switch? KCl is orders of magnitude more expensive to produce than naCl (you just have to evaporate some sea water). Do you really want a Big mac to cost about £12 just so you can have potassium chloride in it?
well, i tend to think that the whole market would move to support the usage of KCl, my family used not hing but that for the longest time, they didn't spend any more on it.
