No, im not talking from the beginning of the millenium, im talking the late 80's - early - mid 90's wwf was what I grew up with, and loved as a kid. Bret Hart, Hogan, A young Shawn Michaels... Ahh good times... I still watch it sometimes now, although not as much as I used to be into it, I like seeing the older wrestlers still in the game.
Good stuff, I was just discussing this with a friend. I was born in 85 and I was obsessed with wrestling from about 90-94, and then again from like 97-98, so I was really into Hogan, the Ultimate Warrior, Money Incorporated, The Undertaker in his prime... I saw the rise of Stone Cold and the Rock to stardom. Actually, I'm certain I saw The Rock's first ever WWF match on Raw, when he was still going by the name Rocky Maivia, as a tribute to his father (Rocky Johnson) and his grandfather (Peter Maivia, sp). The storylines were just great back then. When I turn it on now, I just find the personalities lacking. Maybe it's just because I'm older now and much less easily entertained.
The Sheik used to live about 2 miles from me....My son is into WWE and took him to see RVD live etc...myself I lust after Stone Cold and Shawn Micheals. Lost alot of respect for Hunter when seeing him live. WWE lost a good one when Eddie passed away...
Yeah it went downhill pretty much after the attitude/stone cold era ended, but maybe we only think that because, like previously said we are older and much less easily entertained. I don't know if its as popular with younger people as it was with me and my friends back in the day. I still enjoy watching it nowadays, especially around Wrestlemania time which is an awesome event. Rockys debut' in the WWF was at Survivor Series 96 at MGS.
If you have a NCG Theatre near you..they show the big events for only $5 a ticket. It's like being there in person.
60s and 70s had some wrestling stuff too. That was before cable tv and before it became overly commercialized. By the mid 90s it was mostly laser beams, smoke bombs, etc. It would be nice if they kept all of that hype out of things. There was one dude named Firpo from South America who looked like they had pulled him out of a jungle. Others from that era were Eric the Red, Andre the Giant, and Johnny Powers. .
I forget the name of that one wrestler. He'd do the gimmick where they'd lower him down on the rope and the rope would always get stuck withi him just off the ground, allowing his opponent to beat the crap out of him. Unfortunately, something went wrong with the rope one time and he died from the fall. .
ya know they made a record? i just inventoried it today. had all the old guys.. red rooster, gold dust, hulk hogan, andre the giant, roddy roddy piper.. and some other guys thats name i forgot. holy crap.. i just googled it.. they were a bunch of singing fools! there are a lot of albums
quite frankly, i cannot think of one single reason i would want to, nor one single way in which everyone would not be better off, if it, and the mentality it encouraged, had never existed. i do not mean that to suggest, that something worse couldn't have replaced it. as to that, i haven't the slightest idea, and again cannot immagine why i would want to. =^^= .../\...
Yeah I thought you might of ment owen hart but I dont recall him doing that stunt for every entrance he did as the blue blazer. He was a great athelete and I miss him, RIP Owen.
ya man owen was born in calgary alberta, we all considered him a legend here. But I suspect everyones forgotten about him
I used to watch it as a kid / teen and now I catch it once in a blue moon flipping through channels the ones I grew up with were of course Hulk Hogan, the Ultimate Warrior, the Undertaker, Razor Ramon, Rick Rude, a less flabby Ric Flair, Remember KoKo beware? lol, my fav was Stone Cold Oh and for all of you that are still into wrestling that John Cena Movie "the Marine" was badass go watch it if you havnt
Oldschool WWF is awesome.Ultimite Warrior & the bushwackers were my favorites. I watched it until the WWF & WWC combined. Then it was too many wrestlers & too much drama. But, my kids watch it now & love it. There favs. are Rey Mysterio & John Cena.
I remember I was into wwf in the mid 80s (around the time of hogan, andre the giant, the sheik, captain lou, rowdy roddy piper, macho man randy savage, etc) my mom made us stop watching wrestling because we were imitating the moves..... 4 boys around the same age, watching wrestling, of course you are going to imitate it..... we would watch a bit after school because mom also taught, so I do remember shawn michaels at an early age..... but then my youngest brother marc (who is 10 years younger than me) started to get into wrestling around the late 90s....... I started to get into the story lines and the drama as well....... of course you had degeneration X (shawn michaels, triple H, xpac, chyna) , stone cold, kane, undertaker, the rock, the GODFATHER (remember the hooooee train??) and so many others....... but I stopped taking interest after owen hart died, and then the WWF bought WCW, so they integrated all the wrestlers, and the story lines and the attitude just went downhill...... they lost competition, so it seems they lagged off....
