I had a question about my dreadlocks. My question requires some backstory, so I'll put that in first, sorry if its long. I'm 22, and was visiting family over Christmas break when I decided I wanted to finally get my hair dreadlocked as I had been planning for some time. I looked everywhere for supplies, but not knowing the city, I couldnt find important things like dread wax, or a metal comb. Eventually I asked at a cheap hair cutting place where I could find dreadlock supplies, and a lady there who claimed to have had dreadlocks got this product and said it would work for starting dreadlocks. It was an "American Crew: Fiber" a molding cream, so using that and plastic combs I backcombed my long hair (down to my shoulder blades). I'm white, its very straight, very fine hair, but it looked really good at first. I continued to look for real dread wax (I was looking for DreadHead or Knotty Boy supplies) and found "Jamaican Mango + Lime: Locking Creme Wax" and I used that for a week. After having both those products in my hair for 2 weeks I finally found some Knotty Boy supplies and washed my hair as much as possible, and used the Knotty Boy wax. Used that for the first month and a half. Now its been about 2 and a half months, and my hair is kind of crazy. Some of my hair is deffenatly dreading well, I can tell by feeling it that its really clean and knotting up really well. Parts of my hair are very loose, say knotted at the ends and the main length of it is just plain straight hair, and parts of my hair still feel like they have tons of wax and buildup in them, yet look like straight hair and if I pull at them they come appart revealing a sticky center was all that was holding it together. I was my hair regularly under extremely hot water (to melt the wax) and it doesn't seem to change the worst areas. So my question is this. I have some new dreadlock supplies showing up, Lockpeppa, locking accelerator, and shampoo, and I was wondering, should I comb out the worst sections and start those dreads over, before I waste more time and supplies on them, or should I expect them to eventually clean up? Sense they aren't seeming to dread like the clean hair, it worries me and I don't like stiff, sticky clumps of hair where my dreads should be, but I don't want to do anything to rash. What are your thoughts?

I acctually have some Dr. Bronner, and have been using it for about a week now. I use really hot water, it stings my scalp and is to hot to touch directly to the skin, and i just sit there and let it wash through my hair, but it hasn't seemed to get that stupid wax out.

So I've sworn off wax about a month ago, never touch the stuff again. Hopefully I'll be able to get it all out and just go from now on.

If you are having problems getting it out there's a thread that has the ingredients to a rinse that might help. Apple Cider Vinegar will help too. That + super, so hot you can't stand it water.

You don't need ANY products. Maybe some aloe vera gel & tea tree oil, but other than that... you may as well set your money on fire. LOL

any kind of natural soaps work, ones with out fragence preferably because they have oils that make your hair slippery and not knotty. Tea Tree oil feels wicked on your head when you crazy itchies. NOOOOO WAXXXXXXXX. good luck :)
