I got my lip pierced in december and it healed lovely but then i had sex thursday and it got infected and now its swelled up so much it looks like i have a tumor, its bleeding and oozing w/ pus, the back of the stud is INSIDE my lip so i can't take it out at all and i'm in a great deal of pain. :(

Well if its infected then you wouldn't want to take it out anyway. Just be extra gentle with it and clean it just as diligently as you did when you first got it, on the inside and outside of your mouth. Maybe go back to the shop where you got it pierced and have your piercer take a look at it too.

Nice! Now that's a relationship that can come in handy. I also recommend taking a good dose of vitamin C every day; I find that it really aids in healing and keeping the immune system strong. Best of luck. :)

hey, i know what you mean about the jewellery going inside your lip and getting consumed. thats just happening cause its so swollen and the backing has nowhere to go. the bad thing is that your lip skin can actually heal over it untill its stuck in there. you dont want to let that happen becuase youll have to have it cut out (it happened to my friends monroe). it might not be infected but you dont want to take it out just in case. hopefully your piercer will be able to change it to a longer post. basically, you need a longer post asap. in the meantime, chamomile tea bags will help the swelling go down and make it feel so much better (chammomile is a great anti-inflammatory). drink the tea at the same time and make the tea bag as hot as is comfy. hope this helps :)

soaking it in a sea salt soak thing might help with the pussing, since salt helps to pull moisture out or something. hope it feels better soon :(

Yes, if it is an infection, the worst thing you can do is remove the jewellery.

It worries me that this happened after you had sex; I hope the two are not related in any way. I can't see that they could be...unless you were giving oral to someone particularly scabby. It is far more likely that you bashed it or irritated it in some way to cause the swelling, but without seeing you, or it, I can't be sure.See your doctor, and have them confirm if it is an infection or not.

Personally, I think you have probably just upset a fairly new piercing, and set back it's healing a bit (that probably isn't pus, but lymph fluid leaking from it; this is a normal part of the skin regenerating). Although intitial healing for lips takes around 2 months, it may be many more before it settles properly, and canot be aggravated.

If, however, it is an infection, I'd have a sexual health check, too.... just to be on the safe side....

I would try to take it out so it doesn't heal over it...or heal wrong...
I'd go to the doc and get some antibiotics...

    I'm sorry you're in pain. :(

hey, no prob. my friends was cut out by the doctor, they just make an incision with a scalpel untill they can get at it i think and they probably cut the post or something im not sure. i wouldnt go see a doctor, personally, just a knowledgable piercer. doctors dont seem to know much about healing a forgein object into your body. ive gotten some really really shitty advice from doctors regarding piercings. if your piercer doesnt help you out properly, go see another. just make sure they do something about it right away. your jewellery needs to be taken out if you cant get the swelling to go down and thats something you want your piercer to do because if it cant be replaced right away, any possible infection will be trapped inside...
oh and the sea salt soaks someone reccomended are a good idea too. make them nice and warm and only use sea salt, not table salt. sure hope you get better! i had something like this happen to my lip when i put a too tight flatback stud in it, but mine was healed already so i just took it out. i can only imagine how painful yours must be :(

Hey, I had a plastic retainer in my lip piercing and fell asleep by accident about a month ago, and the back of it went into the hole, too. It hurt like fucking hell and took about half an hour straight to get out, but I just put ice on it to keep the swelling down and slowly massaged it back out of the hole. Try to push it on an angle so the entire flat part doesn't have to come out at once, just turn it to the side. I really can't describe it in words, unfortunately, but good luck!

Just so you know... if you do that, the piercing hole will close, sealing the infection in, and giving it the opportunity to spread internally.

If the jewellery is left in, there will always be a drainage point for the infection fluids to exit via. It will clear up far quicker this way, and cause less complications.

Forgot to mention, if the jewellery is embedded, see your piercer as a matter of urgency; s/he will be able to fit jewellery that will be more comfortable until the swelling abates.
