Hi everyone, this is my first post to the forum. Glad to be here, I have been reading many of the posts and enjoying them very much. I am going to be in Amsterdam on May 4, and then at some point traveling to Brussels, and then to Paris, and then back to Amsterdam. I was in Amsterdam in 2000 for the cup. My wife and I are daily smokers, and love music, art, and nature. Last timewe had a blast, but this time I want to plan ahead a little better! My question is two parts -

    1. Is there anything special happening in Amsterdam on the 4-6th that I might not want to miss?

    2. Should I rent a car for the trip, or take the train? Is it difficult to park/drive a car on that trip?

    Thanks for any help!

    Frank

    Welcome aboard.
    1. May 4th is Memorial Day in Holland there will be some solem parades and a ceremony at dam sqaure with flower laying and may5th is Liberation Day with a few ceramonies honoring the liberation from the Nazis during WW2.

    2. take the train it goes everywhere, is cheap, and runs very frequently\regularly btwn the major european cities.

A few of us will be aournd ath that time as well if you want to meet up for a smoke or anything. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the invite, also. I will take you up on that when I get there!

Does this holiday on the 4th close the town down? I hope not! Heres my tentative itenerary so far. I was reluctant to take the train because I want to carry a nice selection of smoking herbs, and something tells me that the trains would be risky. I have TOMTOM all set up for the trip, and also imported the google map waypoints for both the Haarlem and Amsterdam coffeeshops. I plotted the driving from Rotterdam to Paris, with Brussels as a stopover, and it looks like simple driving. Heres my itenerary in case anyone can/wishes to comment or suggest some other/alternate plans. I have included my notes in the itenrary as well. My wife and I are taking this trip together. Paris is not optional!
Thanks for the invite, also. I will take you up on that when I get there!

the holiday won't noticeably shut the city down...
just a parade along one route.

are you doing brussels and paris in the same trip or two seperate? i'd personally say screw paris. but if doing both i'd hit paris first, brussels on the way back from paris and then return to amsterdam.

The plan is to go to Amsterdam, spend a few days, go to rotterdam, and go to the maritime museum. Then rent a car, drive it to brussels, spend the night, drive to paris, drop the car off at the airport, spend a few days in paris, and then take the train back to amsterdam for a couple more days before heading back to the states. Whew! We are exellent travelers so this itenerary will be alot of fun for us. Never a dull moment!
