Well friends, hopefully in 2 hours and 30 minutes from now, I will be ingesting an 1/8 of magic mushrooms for the first time. I have attempted to get my mind in a spiritual and philosophical state for t he past week, with mixed results. I am nervous, but not the bad kind. :) And last minute tips?

relax! just eat them and wait for it.. i usually start watching a movie or when im with friends we just talk about stuff. have some water ready. give it 20-30 minutes and it should start to kick in.

you should drop a line every once in a while.. its always interesting to hear how peoples first trips are :)

    Enjoy!

Well...it's sorta late now, but I would say if you want to get into a spiritual mood, start by pondering what it means to be a human, what separates from "the animals." Are we just another animal? Then move on to "what does it mean to be?" and let your thoughts take you where they will.

If you're not so philosophically minded (which is cool, not everyone thinks that way) you could start to consider your origins - look around in nature, think about the circle of everything, how your mother gave birth to you and that later you will help create another life, whether by fathering it or giving birth to it. Consider how everything comes from something else, how long trees live and thus how much they must experience - they are the keepers of knowledge, wisdom. Is a tree conscious? What if they are -- they are a mind-body, reacting directly to external stimuli. They are pure consciousness.

And the one, related to that last part, that works for just about anyone, the quote "pure consciousness is a lake, not the ripples that appear in the water." I don't know who said that, or if it can accurately be attributed to any person. Think about it though.....

Yep Neuronaut.... while on shrooms during my first time, the animal-humans came up instantly and from then i strongly agree that we are just animals with brains .. no more... So lets not fuck up the only thing that separates us from them....

Haha, I agree that we're just another animal, that's pretty hard to deny, though I am a firm believer in the food chain, if what you were implying is that we shouldn't eat animals. Yes we shouldn't fuck up the balance of nature, but I do have an extreme affinity for steak and hamburgers.
