I'm confused about something. I have heard at least 6 people this week complaining about the women's beach volleyball uniforms at the Olympics. I saw the women win! Actually, volleyball is the only sport I actually care about. I've been playing since I was 9. I play court and beach in different leagues different times during the year. :$ What I don't understand is why are women pissed that these wonderful women are out there kicking ass in a sport, simply because they wear two piece bathing suits? I mean men are ooogling over them and the women are smacking their boyfriends and husbands and calling them pigs, while saying that the women shouldn't dress that way. Hello! Have any of these people actually tried to play beach volleyball! What they want them to wear long pants and turtlenecks? And for Christs sake haven't they ever been to the beach before. At the beaches here people are practically naked. These uniforms don't even compare. Now I've heard a comment on Dave Letterman, and I'm getting so sick of it. These women worked very hard for years and years sacrificing a lot to get where they are and people can't see past what they are wearing. What is wrong with this country? I haven't heard anyone saying anything about the little swimsuits that the men divers were wearing. The Olympics isn't a fashion show. Ok sorry about the rant, I just had to get that off my chest. Maybe this belongs in the sports forum or something, but it seems to be women who are angry with these volleyball players and I just don't get it.
i totally agree its pointless. they'd be just as better off complaining about the clothes gymnasts wear or better yet the irish dancing traditional skirts that objectify young girls from about 6 upwards. actually they would be more on their line complaining about the latter as at least what gymnasts wear serve a purpose just like people playing professional vollyball..... i mean hoinestly...i wore a pair of jeans and a jumper playin that sport for 10 minutes and i was beat. and as for that my husband has no right to look.....WHY NOT?!? ok i might be out on a limb there....i don't mine them looking at the menu as long as they dont sample any of it if ya dig. ill stop now
My mother and I got into an arguement about that the other day. She said the only reason they wore them was so men could look at them...I said, "uh, it's BEACH volleyball...of course the are wearing bathing suits!!" I also brought up the men wearing speedos and she said that it was DIFFERENT for men because they are visual and women are not. I'm sorry, but I DO appreciate a good looking body...I don't mind watching the men swimming! This coming from a German woman who was brought up in a society that is okay with women sunbathing topless in public parks. I asked her if she thought they should wear robes covering them from their necks to their ankles... Shit, if I had a body like those women, I would dress like that all the time!!
LOL... I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that people who are upset are taking it too far. And I too like to watch the men swimmers, they are very hot! We have just always played beach volleyball in two pieces because it is easier and less bulky. I don't have a body like they have that is why I wear running shorts and a sports bra. I mean if I wore what they wore, well my boobs would be getting much more action than I would, damn things.
I completely agree! If you'll notice my signature, I freakin' love Kerri and Misty. I've been playing VB forever myself, and it's a completely awesome sport that takes a ton of mental and physical strain. I mean, it's no secret that the reason they show women's beach volleyball more frequently than women's soccer or basketball is because of the uniforms - regardless of the fact that the uniform is efficient for playing. I mean, those suits are thongs half the time. But I do agree that women especially need to look past that and use it as an opportunity, when the subject arises, to educate guys sitting on the couch eating popcorn what a tough sport they're watching. It ain't a show of skin for their sake.
BUT IT SURE GET THEIR ATTENTION. The girls are a rockin'..................If someone does not like it, don't fucking watch....go girls!
Well, you can not watch something on moral grounds and remain morally opposed to it. It doesn't mean you have to shut up and ignore it.
dear lord is that sport physical...i think its why i abandoned P.E for good after 3rd year. screw that. id agree it sprobably showed more for the clothes but yes they are completely necessary.....TOO MUCH HEAT PEOPLE *faints* nostalgia over but i mean as for men in speedos....does no-one else find speedos just......funny ? i can't take them seriously...not even in real professional swimming. i know they are completely necessary but i mean come on......they are quite silly lookin...
if it helps; my fiance and i would have liked it if EVERYONE had been wearing less skimpy clothing. we didn't have so much of an issue with the women's beach volleyball... we understood that is what people wear on a beach. but the men's swimsuits they wore sagging so low you could see the top of their buttcracks? unpleasant. and after all- at the original olympics; all the contestants performed in the nude. so there isn't really cause to complain.
That is very true, they were nude, but only the men participated. Quite frankly, I would not really like to watch the original olympics, but like I said the only thing I actually enjoy is volleyball. But indoor court volleyball is what I like more than beach volleyball, unfortunately it only comes on at like 2 in the morning. and they don't wear bikinis because they are inside. They wear uniforms that allow for them to play. It doesn't, in my opinion, have anything to do with showing off their bodies. And I actually only caught the one game where USA won in beach volleyball because I work during the day so I'm not home watching it. I did not however see any thongs, nor do I imagine playing in thongs would be comfortable, with all of the sand. I don't think they show volleyball more. I have seen the swimming and gymnastics on the most, neither of which I am interested in, but it is the only channel I get (we do not have cable, just rabbit ears).
