i'm looking to move somewhere a bit warmer and nearer to the water. i'm wondering if anyone can recommend any nice beachside (or near to) towns. i'm looking for a liberal attitude and a nice enough variety of heathfood, yoga, openmindedness... i really know very little about the southeast. how is the weather typically in costal n.carolina?
I'm a little surprised erzebet said myrtle beach ... it's ok for a touristy visit, but i usually end up running away fast cuz it's sooooo fake tourist oriented. Savannah, GA has a pretty wild party feel ... strikingly similar to New Orleans. But I dunno ... not sure that the best yoga, open-mindedness happen on the SouthEast coast anywhere. We have it in the mountains tho.
We visited family at Mytrle Beach last March. It seemed quite the tourist town even off season; I am not sure I would want to reside there. Visited with some family in Surfside which resembled Mytrle Beach to us. Murrell's Inlet looked nice; I wasn't impressed with the restaurants we visited; Although we really weren't free to explore on our own (family wanted to show us all the 'sights' ) I did not notice any 'organic, vegetarian, etc.
I lived in myrtle beach for a year.... If you dont listen to rap music and drive daddys escalade with a popped coller you wont like it..... go more south charlston sc is very cool hilton head even savannah
I'm in Mount Pleasant, SC east of the Cooper River in Charleston, SC. It's pretty awesome here. There's diversity here, killer buds and friendly folks. It's got all of the urban advantages and is cooler than downtown Charleston because it's next to the water. It's actually affordable too, found a 2-bedroom in a working class neighborhood for $750. It's not a hippy haven persay, but there is a hippy community here. Good live music down here too. Like my dad says, there's Charleston, then there's the rest of SOuth Carolina, they are completely different. There's a lot to do and see around here, and Charleston has been voted America's friendliest city 9 years running. http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&tab=wl&q=Mount%20Pleasant%2C%20SC
NO to myrtle beach .....or as we like to call it the "redneck riviera" lonewolf.....im over here in Folly! Kayte....Folly Beach is where I hang my hat, and I love it here....Folly is not like the rest of South Carolina, and is DEFINATELY NOT like the rest of Charleston. That's what I like about good 'ol Chucktown....every part of town has a different vibe. There definately is a great music scene here, and if you are looking for a laid back beach town, Folly's where its at. Although, I really hate the summers.....too many "tourons", but hey, that comes with living at the beach. Three months of tourists, and the rest of the year is all about the locals. Come on down and check us out.........we're right on the beach, 15 min. from downtown................best of both worlds
wilmington north carolina has alot to offer being both a college town (UNCW) and also with plenty of beaches which are very nice, Carolina Beach and wrightsville beach. Easy access to Myrtle beach only an hour south. Lots of good people in Wilmington and a very active and progreesive down town music scene.
I always enjoy a little dash over to Kure Beach. I wouldn't call it a mecca of health or anything (with the health food stores you are wishing for) but I like it because it never seems to be crowded and the Tornadoes @ the gas station make great breakfasts and you have to stop into Bud N Joes for a beer. yw
