my partner and i wish to spend several years in india to do humanitarian work and pursue our spiritual paths; however, it seems that one can only obtain a visa for six months at a time. is there any way around this?

I was informed that you can apply for a 10 year visa in San Francisco and Manchester. In Kathmandu you can apply for 5 year visas but you'll have to pay some baksheesh to get it. It helps if you have a letter from some place saying that you will be there studying yoga or doing humanitarian work.
