is it ok to still do weed when I'm on anti-depressants? I just started taking cymbalta 60mg, and I don't know if it's ok to still smoke? will it mess with the cymbalta? will the effects of the Marijuana be different?
i'm on effexor or something, 150mg*. i smoke anywheres from 2-5g's a day, so i'd say it's alright. though anxiety/depression is linked to mary jane. my doctor wanted me to quit weed to see if the ganja was one of the triggers of my anxiety. too bad i never quit for more then 12 hours. but be careful, if you notice yourself more anxious/depressed while high, i would stay away. *my depression and anxiety wasn't triggered by cannabis use
It depends on what you're on - the best thing to do is just ask your doctor. They can't do anything, anyway, if you just TELL THEM that you smoke. One of my friends was advised to stay away from weed/drugs while he was on antidepressants. One of my friends' doctors told her that smoking crack is actually better for you than snorting coke... after she (the doctor) asked if she did any drugs and she (the friend) replied, "I just do blow once in a while"... heh. So just be honest with your doctors and usually, they'll tell you what WOULD be best. Doesn't mean you have to listen, haha.
What she said^^. If you ever become a paranoid smoker, quit; if you don't you risk long term, even permanent mental health problems. I have them*, and it really isn't something you should take lightly. * Not triggered by my cannabis use, in case anyone was wondering...
I only know of a few medications that interact negatively with cannabis, the most common being Concerta, but that's for ADHD anyways. Yes, just be careful. Chemically, you should be fine, but some mental aspects may not be so stable so be aware of any increases in stress, anxiety, or depression.
My friend is on anti-depressants (i dont know what kind) and we smoke all the time and she's fine.. so I think you should be ok, but i'm not absolutely positive
nobody really knows the effects and its got to be individual with each person. why do you smoke? ask yourself this because if your depression is related to smoking then it may be wise to stop. i'm in the same boat. i use lexapro(anti depressant and anxiety) . i just started about 2 weeks ago. i've basically been using weed as an anti depressant and anti anxiety but in some ways it has made it worse. i don't believe using drugs fixes anything , just the symptoms, so as soon as you stop the problem re-surfaces. this goes for both the medicine pill and weed(if you use it for that). but, i find when i don't smoke, or use these pills(since i've started using the pills i've decreased my use of smoking, and plan to continue weaning off till i use it just recreationally and not medicinally), i get so unmotivated i don't do anything. so i'm going to use these pills, and smoke, and start doing things that bring enjoyment and stop doing stuff that makes me unhappy and then plan to stop using all substances, and then toke occasionally
