planting times

    guys, anyone else in MD or around? when about do you start planting? i read the last frost is april 11 or so, but i hear tomato gardeners saying thaT they wait til may 1. should i go by the table reading or just wait til may1? i want to start early as possible but dont want to lose them to frost. someone last year said around april 15, but that seems a lil to close for comfort. thanks alot guys

    Two or three weeks wont make that much difference by harvest time - so if you have to wait longer it's no big deal. Most plants "catch up" pretty well. On the other hand - if you're getting "itchy" to plant, keep your eyes on the long distance weather forecasts for your area. By early April they should know if anything cold is headed your way, through the end of the month.

    Besides, if you have a quick cold snap you can cover up the seedlings with a nice warm "sweater". I think pot seedlings are a little tuffer than 'maters.

    Here I took the liberty to look this up for ya: http://www.almanac.com/garden/frostus.php it tells the last day of frost, which for baltimore is march 26. 4/20 is a really good time to plant as well. good luck bro
