    I've got a new bong. First one I've owned. I notice the water gets murky. I rememeber a while ago (which is amazing considering how much I smoke) a thread here about bongwater taking out SOME of the THC. It's not water soluble so not much should be taken. If I don't change the bongwater as offen, does the water get saturated and therefore no longer steals some THC? Is this worth it or is changing the bognwater frequently a better idea?

    thc is not water soluble, not a tiny bit. change bong water for same reason you use mouthwash, keep it fresh, keep it clean

    Yah I wouldnt worry about it taking in any of your thc or anything like that, I would just worry about it getting nasty, so just change it cuz it will get nasty

    It's common knowledge amongst stoners that THC is not water soluble;
    this makes it hilarious when I see people from time to time drinking bong water in the hope of getting high...

    ..and they just get sick.
    Bwahahaha!

    I was pretty sure it wasn't THC soluble, I just thought there might be a chance of some being taken. Good to know I've got ntohing to worry about. I haven't seen anyone drink the bongwater though. That is not something I'd ever want to try.

    I read an article--maybe in High Times--where bongwater was analyzed, and there was nothing in there that would get you high.
    And yeah, I knew a guy who used to drionk bong water, another who would eat left-over roaches, both in the belief that they would get high. But it doesn't work.

    Actually, THC isn't completely insoluble in water. It's soluble but to a very very small degree. In a liter of pure water you can get about 3mg of THC before it becomes saturated.

    u need either fat or alcohol, water contains neither so no it practically isnt

    if thc was water soluble you wouldnt be able to make bubblehash using bubblebags

    Yeah, for any stoner applications it can just be considered insoluble.

    At 3mg per litre, thats enough to get you high. if you drank a litre or so lol

    I dunno what stats to believe in a general sense though.

    The point is that thc will build up in your bong water. real dirty bongwater has a thin layer of oils on the top of the water.

    On the point though, you should replace your bongwater mostly for hygenic reasons. If you have anything other than water in the bong it would be wise to clean it daily. strange shit can grow inside a bong.

    Well that's the maximum solubility level, and actually I recall that it's a little less, around 2.75 mg/L, I think. But that would have to be in prime conditions, i.e. temperature, pressure, etc. And I'm also not positive how well the THC dissolves in water when in smoke. So realistically, the amount of THC dissolved, if at all, would likely be much less than the ideal value. Even if there was a substantial amount within the water, I'm not sure how well the body would absorb the THC; if any would be absorbed I'm sure it would not be 100%, reducing the affects again.

    Synthetic THC is prescribed as an appetite stimulant usually at 2.5mg per dose, so under ideal conditions drinking a litre would likely produce similar effects, maybe a buzz at most. Not many bongs even hold a litre of water, most likely the amount in any given bong doesn't even contain enough THC to meet threshold under ideal conditions.
