Hey, all! It's been a really long time since I've been around, and in that time I commited dreadicide. Killed my dreadies of 7 months or so because of a nasty scalp infection I couldn't get rid of. Now that that's cleared up, I've started dreading again, the big difference being no wax, no fussing, just letting things happen. In an uncharacteristically sociable moment, I accepted an invitation to prom a few days ago, and I was just wondering if anyone can suggest some nice formal styles, as simple as possible. I'd been looking for some styles, but all I've come up with is ridiculous, and looks disgusting. Any help would be welcome... thanks bunches!

do you have a picture of how your hair is looking at the moment, because that would be really helpful in helping you to find a suitable style :)

i managed to get mine in a french twist.

i was told it looked like curly hair in a french twist, not dreads. which is weird.
even weirder was this one guy that lives down the hall didnt recognize me. haha

there's always the tasteful pony-tail, with various prom-centric accoutrements.

Thanks for the advice, everyone [IMG] I'm afraid I haven't got a camera handy at the moment, but my hair looks pretty much like the pics in my gallery, a little fluffier. A little messy. My hair isn't quite long enough to do the knotted at the back thing, but I love how that looks. I've sort of decided just to pin it up, although I have lost a few bobby pins to the Dread Monster that way. Soaringeagle, your dreads are the most incredible I've seen... and I'll add that you have wonderful eyes [IMG]
    Peace, kiddos!

when i went to prom i did nothing with my hair. by the end of the night people were tying red ribbions in my hair. prom was freakin' lame. the red ribbons were from the chocolate that was on the plates when we arrived.[IMG]

not that great of a picture. but dreads are so unique, you can do tons with em. french braids looks pretty sweet too. or maybe some nice wraps that match your outfit. Post the outcome!

If its long enough, a nice braid. Gaaaad, braided dreads look hella sexy. Can't wait till my hair gets longer...

Or you could just use a pretty scarf or headband.

Ooorrrr, you can get a head wrap. Mmm, beauty. Just check around thrift stores and stuff, you'll find something. I bought 5 scarves last time I went. Just wash if first!

    Lovelovelove head wraps. I think it's oh-so-sexy...

Or I've seen the generic black ones in wal-mart and target. [IMG]

Or just wrangle it back into a bun. Maybe stick some sparkly things in there, maybe a lil ribbon or something...be creative! Play around with pretty stuff until you find something you like. Just give yourself at LEAST an hour pre-prom for hair...

Found some pictures where people curled the unlocked hair...I dunno if I'd want hot metal scorching my dreads, but it LOOKS pretty. [IMG]

I usually keep my hair back with a scarf or something like that, so maybe I'll do something else, although the scarves really are beautiful. The dress I found is pretty funky, so I guess the hair should be pretty simple, so I was thinking just to tie it back in a bun. I don't need any curling irons on my hair, my dreadies are already curly :) thanks again for the suggestions!
