I'm currently in a Geographical Perspectives class on "What it means to be Australian". For a project I'm doing I'm trying to find out how Australians view their environment. If any Aussie's would like to help me it would be greatly appreciated, I'll list some questions below and if you would like to answer any or all of them it would be greatly appreciated. (Please answer honestly as all those that participate will remain anonymous) Do you actively think about Australia's natural environment? If so in what way? Are you ever concerned by the multitude of deadly creatures, and environments Australia possesses? Or are you simply comfortable with the natural beauty those dangerous things live in? Do you think the government is taking appropriate care to protect the wildlife, and their habitats? Do you think the government has mismanaged any part of its nature preservation efforts? Do you think the government is TOO concerned with nature preservation? Are you comfortable with the fact that just about anything in the environment could kill you? (Even the seashells for Pete's sake...) Thanks in advance for any enlightenment.
I may as well answer ya questions, man. I got over Australia's enviroment a long time ago. I ain't scared of any anilmals. Basically our government doesn't really give a shit about our enviroment. Little Jonny Howard & his asshole liberals Aren't doing fuck all for the enviroment. Whoever told you Australia is so dangerous is a stupid fuck indeed. Where I live there is about a 95% chance of nothing happening. There are some murders occasionaly, done by people, not the enviroment. Australia is very safe, you should check out your own country first (I think your american). Then you'll realise I'm a lot safer than you.
1. Yes I actively think about the environment as I live in it everyday and have as I've grown up seen it change under humans influence, even in my short time on this planet. 2. No, I am fascinated by the multitude of deadly animals that Australia has and the fact that most people in Australia have no exposure to them whatsoever (except for Redbacks which aren't so deadly!). Unless you dive or live in the countryside I really don't see many deadly creatures being that close to human environments. 3. No the government doesn't do enough to protect nature, mainly because we are so greedy for resources in order to keep our consumer lifestyles ticking along that we allow them to get away with a lot of bad stuff. 4. No one can ever be too concerned with nature preservation, if we as people aren't concerned then who is gooing to be? 5. Anything could kill me, more likely to be the result of my own behaviour or that of another persons than a snake or some other creature.
Yes, I am a volunteer atlasser with the Atlas of Australian Birds, and do a lot of bushwalking and birdwatching. I also worry about environmental damange a lot, and do as much recycling, reusing, reducing etc as I can. In Australia, if you don't know what it is, assume it can kill you. If you DO know what it is, you'll know it can probably kill you. But, they were here first, some of those creatures evolved even before the Indigenous people arrived. Our land is hostile. It is not evolved to support a large, western-style population. having said that, there are places - wild places, I mean - I won't go on my own, because I know it's not safe for a single female with only average survival skills, it's too remote, there's no mobile coverage, no help if I get bitten by something deadly or trip over the edge of a cliff. No. Do a quick google for 'Traveston Dam' for proof money speaks louder than all the animals, plants and birds, and all the people and even science - even scientists say Traveston's a bad idea, the dam won't hold water, it's a dumb place to build it, but the government still won't listen.
your average joe over here doesn't really thunk much of their enviroment the government when not creating more taxes lets the japanese do its whaling stuff in australian waters whilst the yanks blast the hell out of the great barrier reef with depleted uranium.
Its kind of a stupid question... have you said this to your teacher? We're not one big homogenous mass.
you could try doing a survey on surveymonkey.com and then you could get a variety of responses. Not sure how you could target it to Australians there but it might be able to be done, check it out! and fister is right as we're not all one homogenous mass, as is no country, but there are certain values and ideas that dominate those that live here and that might be what your teacher was referring too.
Do you actively think about Australia's natural environment? If so in what way? Are you ever concerned by the multitude of deadly creatures, and environments Australia possesses? Or are you simply comfortable with the natural beauty those dangerous things live in? not really. i just accept that they are there... i rarely even think about them.. its funny that i live here and you tell me there are all these dangerous creatures and i just think they are normal Do you think the government is taking appropriate care to protect the wildlife, and their habitats? no. the government does nothing but lie and be jackasses Do you think the government has mismanaged any part of its nature preservation efforts? i dont really actually think about anything... most aussies are just laid back kinda people... they just like to sit and drink beer. Do you think the government is TOO concerned with nature preservation? no i think the government can go fuck itself Are you comfortable with the fact that just about anything in the environment could kill you? (Even the seashells for Pete's sake...) yeah it doesnt bother me...its like... i have never seen a dangerous snake in real life.. . if i go to the beach there is so much patrol people that i couldnt possibly be eaten by a shark... spiders are nearly everywhere in the world and most have anti venom anyways... and yeah... i have never really considered it. its not to bad... as i say.. most aussies are usually drunk anyways. its fun. austrralia is awesome. the environment is incredible and we should be doing more ourselves (individuals) the goverment does as much as it can but it comes back to us as people. john howard is a just a suck up to bush and might as well be there in bed with him right now coz thats how he runs his coutnry ... in saying that... i ahve no idea how a country should be run... let alone who anyone else in government is. i just know that i think that they should just... not treat people the way they do. i dont understand how politics works and i dont really care. it just annnoys me. i hope that helps... it probably doesnt... i am slightly intoxicated sorry guys. if you read this.. it probably means crap haha.. i am sorry... a few too many and a computer dont match
