hello, i kinda have a thought that needs some opinion. ive recently become pregnant, although it was unexpected and out of the blue....well kinda....it is a blessing. But see heres my thing, my heart belongs to the road, and i of course want to be my childs teacher and all, but how does being on the road with a youngin work out legally and ever other way ? should i hunker down and wait till babys old enough or maniphest an rv and get to goin ? thinking about being stuck in my hometown indefinatley to me is a complete bummer. so im wondering what other traveling mamas do with child. maybe i sound ignorant, because i have met traveling children....but how does it all work out ? and since homeschool laws differ state to state what would i even have to go by.....am i thinkin in the right direction or can someone redirect me ? thanks in advance...love and light....taci....
How will you support yourself and your child on the road? What will you do in a true medical emergency? What happens if the rv breaks down? Make a plan for all those and other things that might come up and enjoy. After the kids is school age you need to have a homebase. An address that you can say is home. That could be your mom's or a friend's. Then follow the homeschooling laws for that state. Other than that, have a great time. Just remember that now that you're a mom the kid's needs come before your's. I can't imagine a better geography lesson than living on the land. And history and math and everything really. What a way to learn about the world. Kathi
thank you for taking the time to reply, it seems like something that shouldnt be so hard to figure out, but guidance is good. makes sence to follow the laws for my base state. have you traveled with kids ? what kind of problems if any were big ones you faced ? one of the biggest reasons im looking fowrd to taking the little one out IS for all the wonderful lessons and experiances in store. Im so excited to think about the diffrent kind of trip this will be. see'ing the world through new eyes. thanks again. love and light -taci
my mom traveled with me when i was little it was fun until i reached a certain which was about school age then it sucked i wanted a base to be able to have the same friends and to be able to do things i guess every child is different but when a kid reaches a certain age they want stability
I haven't really traveled with kids or without for that matter. I have lived all over the country. But I think living in a bus and traveling around would be a great way to live. Can you imagine the educational benefits to living like that. There is a mama on here that does that. Maybe she will post. Kathi
Sorry it took me so long to reply....nausea's a bitch...morning sickness HA ! but anyway...you wouldnt happen to remember that mamas s/n ? Im not gonna bother her just look for her posts. I can imagine the type of education....the types of things to be learned , living from place to place.....learn about Indians living on a reservation for a bit....geography on a hot air balloon...F learning about mountains and animals by following along in a text book , my little one is going to conquer a mountain and meet the animals !!! damn am I excited.....thanks for your input.....love and light..-taci
Sorry about the nausea. Try keeping crackers by your bed and nibble on a few before you get out of bed. Can't remember the mama's name for sure. I think it was busmama or something like that. Kathi
Slightly off THIS topic, but on topic with travelling... Anyone here taken their babies on long flights? We're looking at flying from Seattle to London next year. Our daughter will be 2 years old. We're going to spend the extra money to give her her own seat, in case she just doesn't want to be held anymore, as well as making sure it's a non-stop flight (10 hours). I was wondering if there was anyone who has flown with their younguns for a prolonged period of time and how did they do? Any tips on how to easily pacify them to make the flight as comfortable as possible?
bring toys, food, maybe some books on tape or books for you to read to her. if you let her watch movies maybe you can borrow a mini DVD player. the having her own seat is a good thing. a sling is good for the airport
