Have any of you guys encountered issues or endured negative comments from women based upon the fact that you're slight of build? I don't think I'm skinny, per se, I just have what's maybe a runner's build or something like that. Do women really go for the muscular type, or am I just being insecure? I am 5'8" and maybe 140#...I don't try to work out or anything, although when I do, I bulk up pretty fast. I just wonder if it's worth the effort to work out in your opinions, or should I just let it be, and find someone that's fine with me being thin, but muscular?

Ah! We'll, I'm 5' 11" and I just bumped up to 140. I've normally been around 135, but after drinking protein shakes the last month and a half AND working out every other day, I gained 5 pounds. Buying pants/shorts sucks though since I like them long. Like I fit into a 29 waist in pants... which is small. My one pair of jeans I wear like everyday are 30 waist, 34 length lol... one pair left at American Eagle. I bought shorts today too, waist was 29.

BUT, now involving girls, my first girlfriend basicly made fun of me saying I was anorexic just because I was "skinny." Meanwhile, I ate everything in sight. She was actually a little plump herself. But the good thing about this is that today, I'm muscular and you an see just about every muscle lol

And my current girlfriend is also quite skinny, but she loves my height/weight right now. So I feel and look good.

5'11" 135 pounds, I've always been skinny and I eat everything in sight. Most people lose weight when they go vegan, but I actually gained weight from eating more diverse foods. I workout every day and that seems to help. But yea, sometimes you get self conscious especially around big dudes. eh it's whatever though. Just let it be... if somebody doesn't like you for who you are, fuckem

Thanks for the input, fellas...I am a 30/32 in jeans, myself. It does get hard to find clothes, as most off the rack is heavy into the 34 waist and above.
I kinda got a big head, too (lol)..that tends to exacerbate the appearance of my body being smaller than normal. I'm not talking hydroencephalitic, but I remember being teased as a kid by my relatives about it.

I've deveolped a response to comments when people tease me: 'Ever seen a fat 100 year old?'

Saying "runner's build" is the same thing as a fat chick calling herself "voluptuous" instead of saying she has a fat ass.

Your short and skinny. Thats gotta suck.

First of all girls dig confidence, a skinny dude with a confident personality is going to be way more attractive then a muscular dude who is afraid of saying hello.

Having said that, some chicks (yeah i said chicks) dig skinny guy's alot while others go for built. So long as your not short, weak and fat you should be fine.

Nah some people like to work out, it feels good to exercise and some men like to have bulky muscles, I myself prefer being toned. But to say those who care about muscles are empty headed morons is a cruel stereo-type indeed.

It also seems pretty mean to say that girls who are attracted to body builder types (not that i understand the whole body builder thing myself, a little extreme i think) are "fucked in the head" and then go on and acknowledge that "everyone is attracted to what they like".

my partner is quite slim, i dont like big bulging muscles but i like him to look a little toned. he does a physical job so that keeps him quite toned in the upper body area & he enjoys going to the gym once in a while but if he started to get really big on top i would say something to him. he was quite paronid about his legs at one time. he wouldnt wear shorts, he says he has chicken legs & looks like pieces of cotton hanging from his shorts. i keep telling him his legs are fine, i've just started to get him to wear those 3/4 length tracksuit bottoms.

So, by this particular logic, you're "socially dysfunctional ", and not an asshole?

And as far as my build, all the weight is in the right place...between my legs.

Cosmo - I think skinny guys make the best lovers. I'm not talking about anorexic, really pipstem skinny guys, but "wiry" guys who don't have any fat on them. I am a rock climber, tall and thin (6'2", 125 lbs in my 20s, now 60 lbs. heavier but still skinny but muscular). Women say I have a great build.

Skinny guys are usually more flexible - your hips and waist can move in many directions, which is great for sex. And generally, skinny guys have longer penises - or at least they look longer, as there is no fat around the midsection to cover up the package.

Would you rather have your ribs show or have a huge potbelly?

There is no lack of muscular definition with me (pics are on this site to prove it), I just don't have the average bulk or mass thats 'common' based upon my height. I appreciate all of the comments on this subject from everyone. I agree with the idea that we slim men are better lovers, too...and I wouldn't want a gut on my frame for anything, that would be inappropriate to say the least.

In addition, before it gets said, I don't have issues with people of any weight. I have preferences based upon a healthy lifestyle. For an additional topic to discuss, do any of you think that being overweight is necessarily an indicator of an unhealthy lifestyle? Would any of you have an issue dating someone with a different body type than yours? What are your preferences for physical attraction with regards to height/weight proportions?

Everyone has their preference, obviously. Making a generalization such as "women like this" or "women like that" won't help you when you finally meet a woman you're into. I've seen relationships of all types that have nothing to do with looks. Tall slender gorgeous women going out with short fat, bald, pugs; Skinny women dating fat, almost obese, men, and on and on. The older you get the less it matters and the more likely you'll choose someone not based on their bod but on what's right for you.

I'm a muscular 5'9 160 right now. I started out at 5'7 115. My final goal is around 6'1 230, or if I stay the same height about 5'9 200 (I'm supposed to get a little over 6', but shit happens). This is at around 8% bodyfat.

Right now, I'm eating 3,000-4,000 cals/ day with 1-2 g protein / lb bodyweight per day. I also drink about a gallon of water a day.

I lift with a full-body split 3 times per week. I do deadlifts, bench, squat, standing barbell military press, pendlay row, weighted (not assisted; weighted makes it harder) dips, and weighted chinups.

I'm on the following supplements: whey protein, sometimes a weight gainer (basically just various sources of protein mixed with lots of sugar and carbs), and creatine ethyl ester.

And yeah, most girls definately prefer more muscular guys. Low bf is more important though, but mass is also important. Depending on your height, these are about the ideal weights at a bf between 7 and 10%:
    5'6 170
    5'7 175
    5'8 180
    5'9 185
    5'10 190
    6' 195
    6'1 205
    6'2 215
    6'3 225
    etc..

Obviously, my target weights are above ideal but I don't lift for girls. I do it for myself.

If you're just trying to get laid though, women care a lot less about looks than men. As long as you're presentable, you have a decent shot with most (and some kind of shot but not a very good one for 9s and 10s) women if you have game.

If you're not gaining weight then it's what you're eating, not your metabolism.

Gaining weight is a simple law of physics: eat more calories than you burn, and you add weight. Eat the same as you burn and you keep the same weight. Eat less and you lose weight.

No one's metabolism is so fast that they can't gain weight. Trust me, chart the actual amount of food you're eating per day and I guarantee you're not eating as much as you think you are. At most like 2000-2300 calories at 135 lbs. And that would be a pretty fast metabolism.

I mean, even if you're metabolism was impossibly fast, like 9,000 calories burned per day, then you could just eat 9,500. (Don't do that you'll become a total fatass lol)

Thanks for the info on training and caloric intake, man...The last exam I had, my doctor said my BMI was optimal, so I can't be too far off the mark I figure. I may not have mentioned it, but I can add weight when I want to, I just kind of wonder how some do it without evern trying. I have to consciously decide to add more protein, for example, in order to build muscle mass. I don't do junk food, I just don't eat much.
